Your Server

What is a good, easy setup small business server to buy?

Have used a Buffalo TeraStation before, but now looks like its unavailable to buy. Is there something similar to this for a small business to use? Something thats easy on the budget too is always nice, any suggestions greatly appreciated. Thank you! *approx. 20 or under employees in company if that matters.

  1. Amazon or eBay http://answers.yahoo.com/search/search_result;_ylt=AiIiB_CfE.r9T4zQ6SQypxB17hR.;_ylv=3?p=server+for+small+business
  2. I have an Internet Parlor and just bought a 256K used IBM with a Pentium III processor and added a LAN card. I used Windows Xp Network connection to set up a network through a router and all works very well. The unit costed $50.00 and the 24 bay router costed $50.00. You can't get much cheaper than that!
  3. Well, you can make your own. Basically for a server, all you need is the standard hardware of a PC and some custom software, of which some can be free. First, you need to ask yourself what the server will be used for (i.e. file sharing, print server, email server, RAS, etc.). Then you need to think of backup options (i.e. tape, DVD, external HD). Finally, look at how bad it will be if the server will go down. Do a ROI on how much it will cost if it were to be down for an hour, day, week, etc., and compare that with how much you are willing to spend. If you need specifics, just ask.
