Counter strike 1.6 dedicated server question?

hi i have a friend who gave me cs 1.6 on a disk it has steam and everything and i cud play online just fine w/o downloading anything b/c its all on disk anyway it came with a creating dedicated erver option and i was wondering how do i use it when i click "HLDS Launcher" valve a green window pops up am i suppose to just configure it then launch my own game? i did it but cant find the server online am i suppose to input codes iunto the console? plz help ppl thx ok i found it online now but but i try to get in it it said "disconnected: VALVE validiction rejected" wat does that mean?? btw in the console it says this: couldn't exec listip.cfg couldn't exec banned.cfg No auth servers parsed Disabling Valve Authentication.
