PS3 or Xbox360 for streaming shares?

I have a 4x 750GB RAID5 storage server at the house. I usually manage all of the data through SMB shares. I was thinking it might be nice to build a media server for our TV, but it might be a better idea to buy a console to do this. This is mainly highlighted by the fact that there are netflix clients as well, and the implementation would be easier to use a console than configure a dedicated HTPC computer, as well as be cheaper. I mainly have Xvid AVI's, but have some Divx and MKV content as well. I'd prefer if they were all supported. I'd be more excited about the PS3 as I'm looking forward to Gran Turismo, however I'll settle for either. Which platform has better compatibility and ease of use for streaming SMB network shares?

1. The PS3 is the best when it comes to entertainment, I prefer my PS3 over my old XBOX 360 any day. The PS3 has great compatibility for the SMB network share.
