Hosting a game server on a web host?

I want to know if it is possible to host a game server (counter strike, team fortress, etc.), on a web host. This might be hard because I cant necessarily open up a command prompt (or can I)? Any discussion on this would be helpful, thanks! PS. NEEDS TO BE COMPATIBLE WITH STEAM

1. You will need to get a dedicated virtual server - shared web hosting wont work. You will then have complete access to the dedicated server and be able to setup the gaming platform.
