Your Server

What is the recommended hardware config for a dedicated server?

I am looking to build a Pc to use as a dedicated server. I know that I don't need to spend top dollar on alot of the components to build it but, what parts should i spend the extra bucks on?

  1. It depends on how you're actually going to use it, but things to keep in mind for any server: - Power supply + backup - you don't want that machine flopping down on you. Get a reliable PSU and think about getting backup. - Multi-core CPU. More processing power = better. Duh :P - Faster & more reliable hard drives. I highly recommend a minimum RAID 0+1 (10) config, the more the merrier. - If you'll be handling this server over a network, gigabit ethernet and high speed Internet connections! Hope that helps.
  2. I have actually been buying servers from a website called Pacific Geek. They have a different deal on their Nooner webpage. I purchased a few servers and upgraded the RAM and hard drives. I think RAM and hard drive is the most important parts of the server. Make sure whatever you get supports 64-bit operating systems.
