Sending image through SMTP server question?

I have a program that automatically sends pictures through a specified SMTP server... I have it set up to send them to my phone's email address with ATT&T. I've tried Gmail and Yahoo, and both work, it sends the message, but when my phone tries to retrieve the picture, it says "failed". I know it's not a problem with the image though, because if I send the SAME image directly through gmail or yahoo, my phone is able to download it perfectly. Could this be an issue with encryption? Or is it something else? Any ideas? I do. I already said that the pictures worked fine if I sent them normally. Sending them through the program, however, doesn't work. Even though it tries to send the pictures... For some reason, my phone can't retrieve them.
