How long does it take to get a server position at Outback Steakhouse?
I am currently a busser at Outback Steakhouse and wondered how long from the time you get hired does it take to get a server position, I think I do a good job and I try to help out the servers and do extra stuff. Could that get me a promotion to a server? Please let me know!

- Promotions usually don't happen automatically or on a time table. If you prove yourself and have the social personality necessary to be a server, then you can ask to be considered when a server position becomes available. After you are there for a few months, talk to your manager and tell him/her of your aspirations. Ask for advise on how to achieve your goals.
- The restaurant industry is a tricky place sometimes. Restaurants have extremely high turnover rates, and I've found that being in the right place at the right time can get your foot in the door. If you have any serving experience at all, often times you'll be hired out of necessity. Training a new waiter/waitress is time consuming and often times frustrating, as the fast pace and high stress isn't for everybody. If you have anything at all to bring to the table, I'd think you shouldn't have too tough a time. Some things that might slow you down: Being under 21. Not desirable in the industry, as you are unable to promote liquor sales in most states. No experience serving tables. Waiters are a dime a dozen... why hire inexperience when there are 12 experienced candidates waiting for a position. I'm afraid if you have never waited a table, you're going to have to work your way up bussing tables and washing dishes.
- The industry is sneaky. Sometimes they'll give you a raise in your present position rather than switch you to a job which many more people prefer. You can be promoted though, work extra hard and talk to the manager about your wishes at some point.
- could be a month or two
