server ...?

How can i make one of my systems in a LAN network the server and the others clients? do i need a third party software to do it in windows xp or there is a way to configure it?

1. If you want to install as workgroup, you can do it wih xp os. If you want to create domain you must need a windows server OS like MS windows 2000/2003 server. Configure the IP settings for the machines & make it as work group / client for domain.
2. If all you want to do is use the computer as a file server then just put all your files there and create shortcuts on everyone's desktops and call it your server ;). If you want to get into more security and create a domain, that requires a server OS. Also, if you have more than 5 or 6 computers on your network, you might want to consider upgrading memory in the server/computer because each client uses the server's resources. Heavy traffic could cause lag.
