Your Server

Need help with home mail server setup.?

I am trying to setup a home mail server. I am using SmarterMail 6.5 on Windows Server 2008. I can send mail via Gmail SMTP relay but cannot receive anything. I use dyndns.com free dns service which offers MX routing and is set to dynamic hostname. DSL modem in bridged mode and ports 110 and 25 forwarded from router to mail server. Netstat on server says both ports listening. Can telnet to both remotely. Any helpful suggestions appreciated.

  1. You are configuring POP in GMail on an unsupported client. It seems that you have the wrong port settings: Standard instructions: 1. Enable POP in Gmail. Don't forget to click Save Changes when you're done. 2. Configure your client to match the settings below: Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - requires SSL: pop.gmail.com Use SSL: Yes Port: 995 Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - requires TLS: smtp.gmail.com (use authentication) Use Authentication: Yes Use STARTTLS: Yes (some clients call this SSL) Port: 465 or 587 Account Name: your full email address (including @gmail.com or @your_domain.com) Email Address: your email address (username@gmail.com or username@your_domain.com) Password: your Gmail password
