will a dedicated server run better on a windows machine or linux machine

- If you want a dedicated server on Windows, you need to install a Windows server OS. There are many services not available on a desktop OS. I find Linux is more stable, faster and it contains ALL the services you are likely to need and extras. It is inherently more secure, and you can easily select the services you actually need.
- If you are serving a small network you won't notice the difference, just go with what you are familiar. If you want to serve to both Linux and Windows then Linux is easier to set up (assuming you know Linux).
- hello if your wanting free server software go to microsoft.com and then the downloads area and you can get free server software downloads with a license key. i would only recommend trying to download this software on a fast broadband connection not dialup connection. you will have to register with microsoft so they can send the license key to your email address. the software is a legal free download and not a pirate version of windows !!!!. some of the software will work for 6 months and you could possibly reinstall after this period and request a new license key from microsoft. you will need iso burner to burn the 2 software cds to blank cd-r s. good luck bluetoothwizard1[chris.]
