Google Gmail as an SMTP server?

I got a job sending out email campaigns with Summit Soft's Email Campaign software. Unfortunately, I've been unable to do my job. I need an SMTP server and I had heard you could set it up through gmail. I've tried and tried, and it seems to not make a difference. Please help if you could. Instruct me on how to possibly set that up?
