Which of these Distros should I choose for my Linux web server?
I am ordering a dedicated server and have the option to choose one these for the OS: FreeBSD 7.2 Debian 5.0.1 CentOS 5.3 They are all the latest stable release. So which should I choose, which would be the best for handling heavy traffic, and security?

- i think i would choose Debian 5.0.1 you hear alot about Debian so i would recommend that i haven't tried it my self yet but im going too give it a try soon!
- I would personally go for Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS which is supported until 2013 Ubuntu 8.04.2 LTS Download (select PC (Intel x86) server install CD) http://releases.ubuntu.com/hardy/ The Perfect Server - Ubuntu Hardy Heron (Ubuntu 8.04 LTS Server) http://www.howtoforge.com/perfect-server-ubuntu8.04-lts LUg.
- OK....So the two answers you have so far is a guy recommending a distro he's admittedly never used before and another for a distro that isn't even in your list of choices. I've been a UNIX and Linux administrator for several years and used all of these operating systems. At work I have CentOS on several boxes running webservers and they are flawless with more than 10000 hits on it every day. FreeBSD is as solid as an OS gets but harder to find apps if you want to turn your webserver into something else later. Debian is rarely used for any enterprise system. From my system administration and hands on experience with all of these choices I would go with CentOS.
