How do you get client a machine and server to communicate without disabling firewall on server?
Could you summarize the steps please? I am using PCs. The client is running Vista and the server is running XP. Idealy, I would like to communicate thru port 7788, if that makes sense. Thanks.

- You can't just choose any port. Machines require specific ports for certain operations. If you need a port you simply add it to the firewall exceptions. NEVER open more than you need as any open port is reducing your security on the internet. If you need a Windows file sharing server there is already an exception configured for this with all the required ports attached and it only needs to be turned on.
- there should be some program in the firewall, with exceptions and it tells you the specific port number to allow traffic through, it won't disable the firewall, just let the traffic in that port through.
