Shared host or dedicated server?

Not sure which way to go. I am wanting to start up an information website that i am sure will get quite a bit of traffic. Just not sure weather to go shared host or dedicated server? From all my Research they both have good and bad points. Shared host- I am worried that my site may be blocked due to someone else i am sharing with say if they were selling pron or something? Slow page loading times? Do shared hosts get up in the top 10 for searches? But definitely the up side is it costs alot less. Dedicated server- Just costs so god damn much! Bt maybe its worth it? If i have faster page loading times etc then maybe id get even more traffic and cover alot of the costs through the money from the advertisements? I know i could go VPS but i just saw this as a mix of both, yes it costs less, but you are still sharing so I'm still worried about page loading times and the possibility of being blocked due to their content. My honest thought are if i am going to do it i may as well give my site its best possible Chance of succeeding. But maybe i don't need to go as far as the expense of a dedicated host? or do I ?? Any opinion or information would be help full. Thanks, Lisa

  1. You don't seem to understand the concept of "shared hosting" at all. You are taking these two words literally. Q: I am worried that my site may be blocked...with say if they were selling pron or something? Ans: funny, who told you that? Q: Do shared hosts get up in the top 10 for searches? Ans: as with ALL sites depends on the words people use to search and SEO of your site, of course they can get in the top 10 searches. Q: Slow page loading times? Ans: cache and other techniques such as placing JS at the bottom. I don't know what kind of research you did but your points about shared hosts are all false except for the last one. If you have the money then go dedicated though.
  2. You wont get blocked if someone on the same server is sharing objectional content UNLESS you are using a pooly setup host or blacklisted host. Some hosts like Freewebs are blocked by some filters because people can post almost anything. I run a shared hosting service. I have 1 domain that has been blocked at work, but the rest are fine. Most hosts should be able to survive alot of traffic. Please feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions
  3. if you think you need the most relible solution and full control, you'd better buy a dedicated server with about $89/month.
