is there a guru out there faster than godaddy service? question about virtual dedicated server - setting DNS?
I'm a little new at the virtual dedicated server thing so please forgive if I miss a detail here. The server requires to have a name, so it is named: wncwebsitedesign.com (that actual domain name is simply cash parked at the moment, and I dont have any need to open it as an actual website just yet). On this new server (wncwebsitedesign.com) I have created the first website, which is called maggievalleyproperty.com. In my main control panel there is only one ns entry, so I created another, so now I have ns1.wncwebsitedesign.com and ns2.wncwebsitedesign.com. In the control panel for the first created website I have done the same. I created the second NS entry and it now has: ns1.maggievalleyproperty.com and ns2.maggievalleyproperty.com. Soooooo. I go to the godaddy registrar to change the dns settings so I can point the domain to the files...right?....but when I place ns1.maggievalleyproperty.com and ns2.maggievalleyproperty.com as the nameservers, it is not taking them as registered name servers....what am I missing?

- http://wncwebsitedesign.com/ doesn't look like the website you're describing. Did you buy that name or are you just trying to use it?
- The answer to your question is very complicated and very simple. You put the name of your servers as the place where the internet will get the names of your servers. This is wrong. The internet has a list of name servers. The also have IP addresses. You can put one or the other in there. =================== Domain Whois record Queried whois.internic.net with "dom maggievalleyproperty.com"... Whois Server Version 2.0 Domain names in the .com and .net domains can now be registered with many different competing registrars. Go to http://www.internic.net for detailed information. Domain Name: MAGGIEVALLEYPROPERTY.COM Registrar: GODADDY.COM, INC. Whois Server: whois.godaddy.com Referral URL: http://registrar.godaddy.com Name Server: NS51.DOMAINCONTROL.COM Name Server: NS52.DOMAINCONTROL.COM Status: clientDeleteProhibited Status: clientRenewProhibited Status: clientTransferProhibited Status: clientUpdateProhibited Updated Date: 17-feb-2009 Creation Date: 12-aug-2002 Expiration Date: 12-aug-2009 ============================= You seam like a smart guy. The name server that you seek is listed above. http://tatumweb.com/iptools.htm, This is what I used to look up you domain name. I know as part of that it will report the name server that you have. See it above? You can do the same thing I did with the AD Hoc IP tools web site. I always look up a company with AD Hoc IP tool to get information about them. Here is a funny one. No matter what the web host tells you, you are what is entered in the DNS server's domain register. You are what they have put in at the DNS servers. You can correct the information later, maybe, but you are what they say you are.
