Can anyone recommend a good hosting and dedicated server company?

I have been shopping around for a web hosting and dedicated server provider for an online game being developed. But my brain is beginning to hurt as they all claim to be the cheapest/best! My current hosting company does not provide MySQL/PHP database support nor does it have a forum template, both things I need. I'm not too fussed on the price and in my opinion, word of mouth usually works best, so does anyone have first hand experience of some good hosting companies that also provide dedicated servers? I am based in the UK.

2. A friend of mine works in the server farm for Godaddy. Their customer service is particular good even when you have forgotten your password. They support payment in Euros as well. Maybe I like them because they are close enough that I could drive over there in person.
