Importing Gmail into Apple Mail or Outlook?

I'm trying to configure my Gmail account to transfer directly to my AppleMail. I've got as far as programming the "Pop" server to forward my email to AppleMail, but I'm not able to send mail - the outgoing mail server is not recognized. According to the Apple website (below), the outgoing mail server is "smtp.gmail.com" - but that doesn't do anything. I'm really confused and extremely frustrated. If anyone has any advice, or has encountered this problem themselves, please lend a hand. Thanks! 2. first of all open gmail.com and login from ur id and settings - forwarding pop/imag - enable imap - save and logout. then for outlook express give id and password and incoming server is pop.gmail.com and outgoing server is smtp.gmail.com then in outgoing mailserver tick my server requires authentication and in more settings tick use same settings for my incoming mail server and in advanced smtp 465 and pop3 is 995 and tick both the SSL u can access it fine. all the best. kardevi143@yahoo.co.in
