How do I learn Linux server management?

I wish to become a master at Linux Server Management (mainly Fedora) so that I can manage web hosting servers. Where do I start? How do I go about it? How much time will it take?

  1. Hi If you just want to play and learn, I suggest testing your LINUX setup in a Virtual Machine (Like VMWARE.com) which allows you run Linux inside a windows machine. With Redhat versions, the PDF files that come with the release are very comprehensive, both for a GUI and command line. Release notes have answered about 40% of my questions and the rest in the search feature / knowledge base of the website of the OS.
  2. Start with some books, move into some hands on experience and if your knew to Linux OS or even the IT field, it may take a while.
  3. You can start with a book on System / Network Administration if you are already familiar with the Linux Operating System. There is a lot of documentation and other reference material available on the net in the form of tutorials and guides. A book will however help you in learning things systematically. A good starting point is the Linux Documentation Project at http://www.tldp.org/.
