Your Server

What specs should a computer have to use it as a dedicated server for online gaming?

I plan on using my older computer as a dedicated server, but I'm not sure if its good enough. I cant remember the specs too well but I know it has a 1.2 ghz processor and around 300mb of ram.

1. It depends on the amount of users who will be accessing your server. for one to a couple users your current hardware may suffice. For a number such as 50+ who will be accessing your server you'll need a much more powerful computer. What you'd need is a computer with a great deal of processing power. GPUs wont matter too much or at all, but RAM will also be important. I'd get at LEAST a dual core at at least 2ghz per core. You would also benefit from a server operating system. They're designed to handle multiple users at the same time more efficiently than a standard OS.
