- A virtual server is one server that may host multiple sites. If you pay for a dedicated server you get just that, a dedicated server. All CPU processes, memory allocation etc. goes to your applications.
- Different vendors or software packages use the term "virtual" in different ways. In general virtual is something that you cannot touch or see, but is presented as and functions as a real server. For example you can use software called Virutal PC on a laptop running Windows XP to host (run) a "virtual" Windows 2003 Server. In this case the laptop running Windows XP is the "dedicated" computer and the Windows 2003 server is "virtual."
