  1. A virtual server is one server that may host multiple sites. If you pay for a dedicated server you get just that, a dedicated server. All CPU processes, memory allocation etc. goes to your applications.
  2. Different vendors or software packages use the term "virtual" in different ways. In general virtual is something that you cannot touch or see, but is presented as and functions as a real server. For example you can use software called Virutal PC on a laptop running Windows XP to host (run) a "virtual" Windows 2003 Server. In this case the laptop running Windows XP is the "dedicated" computer and the Windows 2003 server is "virtual."
