Using gmail and yahoo really need avg?

If you're using yahoo and gmail on the same computer, since their email are web based not downloaded to computer like outlook express 6 ( which I have don't use) do I really need to use avg with yahoo or gmail? I have it hooked up to gmail it says email scanner not active automatic login pop.gmail.com:995 addtional settings local port 10110 email client original activate this server and use it for receiving email smtp relay host automatic smtp.gmail.com:465 local port 10025 automatic regular admin server auto pop 3:10110 email client smtp server original activate this server is this correct or should I just switch to thunderbird and forget the rest? windows xp free avg 8 yep I know viruses are in emails too my email scanner just activated itself don't know why, I could'nt get it to

  1. ok sick with avg yes ya need it antivius software is must viruses are even in emails / scan emails when reciving and sending. also enable the email scanner. hope this helped
  2. AVG's dedicated e-mail scanner only scans if you are using e-mail client software (Outlook, Thunderbird, Windows Live Mail, etc). If you download an attachment to your computer, AVG regular scanner will pick up on it. But you still need an anti-virus such as AVG. Only a very small percentage of viruses and other malware will arrive via e mail.
