Unable to send or forward Yahoo email. How to reprogram SMTP server (still learning)?

Yahoo mail was working o.k. Reformatted hard drive to clean up some messes. Reloaded with Windows XP Home Edition. Problems with Yahoo but not Gmail, etc.
