Hi everyone, I'm having serious problems configuring my outlook express to work with gmail. this error message keeps popping up "The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'smtp.gmail.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 465, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E" and 'The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'pop.gmail.com', Server: 'pop.gmail.com', Protocol: POP3, Port: 995, Secure(SSL): Yes, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E' I'e tried the configuration from gmail using imap and pop and i'm still getting that error message. and the '465' turns to '587' when i use 587. I put on all required authentication and enabled SSL. and i'm stiiling having problems and would like to see if it could be rectified soon as it is for a school project that is due in about a month. any help would be greatly appreciated.

  4. Have you tried disabling your firewall?
  5. Okay, first of all, i had the same problem. I tried everything!!!!!! Nothing worked! What i did was just start a new email. Have the same email address so that people can keep emailing you there. What you want to do is log in, click settins up in the right hand corner, then click accounts, go to google account settings, and press delete email for good. Then you can start a new one!
  6. heres what you do you sign out then you send somthing to yourself after that you restart the computer and log back in then you check your email open the messege and reply to it if that dosen't work then you have to get a new email but if it does then after replying send a new messege. p.s. you have to force quit the program and then open it agian before you restart it
  7. First, something you've probably already done, but something I have to ask. Have you turned on POP access for your account? http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=13273 Are you able to receive other e-mail accounts using Outlook? If not, try disabling your antivirus or internet security software, as that's often the culprit in problems like this. I've had similar problems on client PCs where I had to completely uninstall the firewall/antivirus to get it to work (this was usually with Norton, but not in all cases). [EDIT] Also make sure that SPA, Secure Password Authentication, is NOT enabled in Outlook.[/EDIT] Second, try telneting to the gmail server in the command line to see if you can reach them. If not it's most likely your Outlook settings, firewall or your antivirus: Taken from http://www.tiscali.co.uk/help/email/oe_errors_0x800ccc0e.html: # Click the Start button then RUN type in cmd on (Windows NT/2000/XP). This will open a new command prompt window, with white text on a black screen. # Type in the following exactly as it appears. You will not see what you are entering so take it slowly, and if you make a mistake, start again. telnet pop.tiscali.co.uk 995 and then click the Enter key on your keyboard. You will then be connected to the email server. # Type in USER followed by your email address e.g. USER jo_blog@gmail.com and then click the Enter key. You will then get a message +OK Please enter your pass, with the PASS command # Type in PASS followed by your password e.g. PASS joblog0370 and click the Enter key. If it is correct, you will get an OK Well done message. If you can do this, you have connected to the Gmail server and so the problem probably lies somewhere with Outlook Express or your internet security software. Just type exit or quit to exit. Feel free to message me. Good luck!
