My Outlook Express Is Not Working!!!?

I use Windows XP Home Edition on a emachinesT3112. My ISP is Comcast (High-Speed). I use a POP3 incoming mail server and a SMTP outgoing mail server. I recently removed then added again Spybot Search & Destroy 1.4 where I purged: WildTangents, WinSoftware, WinAntiSpyware2006, Windows Security Center AntiVirus/Firewall Disable Notify (should I recover these 4 items?). I normally use McAfee Security (Personal Firewall Plus and VirusScan), should I add my IP address to the list of allowed sites? Will this make a difference, can a firewall affect my Outlook Express? My Outlook Express had been working fine for the 5 months I've had it since yesterday until after I reinstalled Spybot. I can't receive incoming messages or send messages through Outlook Express as I get this error message: An unknown TCP/IP error occurred. Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC40**PLEASE HELP!!!**AS THE REPS HAVE NO CLUE!!!

  1. Use the System Restore tool on your computer to reset it to the last saved point before you made the changes. I'm sorry i can't give you a better process but this will work. Be shure to backup any recently saved files that are important to you eg. school work, saved games, work files, pics, etc. on a CD before doing this as you will lose EVERYTHING created past the date you restore it to. Hope this helps, Johnny_C506
  2. I would suspect that the firewall is the culprit based on what you have described. Use spybot's start up manager to disable all firewall and security software and see if it works then. Once you have identified the problem area then you further investigate.
  3. Here Macfee Firewall is blocking OutLook Express from transmitting data to the internet. Open Macfee Firewall > Internet Applications > Search for outlook express and add it to Allowed list by right clicking on it. Neo
