  1. What server OS are you using? If Unix, you probably already have a mail server installed and ready to use. You just need to configure it. You might try hiring someone local to get you set up the rest of the way. It won't be all that expensive. I do that for a living and I don't charge a lot :)
  2. The name of SMTP mail service depends on vendor, If your Operating system is Windows line it must be Exchange 5.5/2000/2003 server/Lotus domino,or if its Unix your mail server can be Sendmail/Lotus domino or if its Netware something like Groupwise. What ever the SMTP mail server ( eg : Exchange server in your case), 1 - Go through the Microsoft documentation for specific version/platform, Let say exchange 2003 Enterprise version on Windows 2003 enterprise version. 2- Take a check list right from release notes - to - tuning miscellaneous parameters. 3- Keep your installation documentation and configuration settings ( like your domain name,IP,gateway, other user mail box info and passwords) ready in hardcopy or softcopy. 4- Firewall/VPN settings are quite common for all type of SMTP servers, such as open port numbers SMTP 25. 4- Test delivery of mails from inside and out side of company network. Its so cool....go ahead.
