help setting up exchange server?

1 install server 2k3 2 dcpromo 3 install exchange 4 add domain to recipient policy 5 change port smtp runs on (blocked by isp) 6 add email to user in active directory 7 setup client with custom port 8 wont connect. iv read and done waht iv read. but it just wont connect. can someone help me please! my mail will be relayed by another server on a different port so that i can recieve the mail. thanks

1. are your clients behind the same firewall? More than a few places to check when setting up exchange. My suggestion would be to get your clients connected, dont worry about the ports behind your firewall. Is your firewall NATing traffic to the Exchange box? I've found that 99% of our Exchange problems were actually the Firewall. Check your logs to see if something is being blocked. Do you have a static IP address?
