Why is router needed to host game servers.?

Hello, Can anyone tell me why is router needed to host game servers? Thanks!

1. Is this a server that will be on the internet? Are you serving up games to be played across the internet? If so, then there's no need for a router unless it's for your own use (multiple computers sharing the same ISP connection). If the server is meant for home play...folks come to your home, hook up and play games (or you take it all to someone else's home to play), then a network hub will work. Good luck!!
