Small Business Server 2003 Client Internet Speed?

If client computers connect to the internet through the SBS 2003 server as opposed to directly through the router, would they see a decrease in internet speed? If so, what kind of a performance decrease can be expected, and would it be a noticeable decrease if using a cable broadband connection that averages about 20,000 kpps download and 4,500 kpps upload shared among 6 to 7 client computers running an online citrix application?

  1. There will be no noticeable difference. a 20 Mb (which is what 20,000 Kb is) is 1/5 the capacity of a standard network adapter. And acting as a router does not put any significant overhead on a system.
