Vista will not connect to Small Business Server 2003 R2?

I recently set-up a domain on my Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition R2 machine. Well my office has both XP Pro systems and systems running Windows Vista Business Edition. The XP systems connected to my server (Domain) with no problem but the Vista Business systems can't seem to locate it. If I search for the shared files on my server under the run command I am able to locate them but as far as locating the domain no luck. I have received a number of error messages ranging from can't locate the Small Business Server to some router set-up issues, to can't locate the users or computers on the server. I am confused because the XP systems connected just fine. The http://servername/connectcomputer does not work for me nor does locating the server through the network set-up. Any suggestions will help.

  1. It wont work because you didn't download the update. Click on the link below for the update and install it to your server. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926505
  2. Vista is Fun!!! OK, the first step is to download/install this: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=9BF2F1E4-1B2C-471B-A284-E0C8C169FAC3&displaylang=en once that is done, you likely still can't join the domain, so now temporarily turn off the firewall on both the Vista and SBS2003 machines, and try again. If it works, then you know it's a firewall problem (fairly likely). If it does not work, try this: on both the Vista and SBS2003 machine, enable Netbios over TCP/IP - Network Connections, right-click, Properties, TCP/IP, Advanced, WINS on the 2003 box. For the Vista box, I think it's Control Panel, Network Connections, then the same as the 2003. I think that should do it - now you just need to google for the ports that need to be open on the server and client, and turn the firewalls back on. I'm working on Vista clients and a Samba domain controller, which is even funner... good luck
