What is the EASIEST way to setup a Linux Web Server? I have a need to host some web sites, and have been trying to do so with an evaluation copy of Server 2k3. And while I have been able to get more than a few simple sites up, I am having trouble doing anything advanced, like setting up a simple in and out bound mail server, or getting PHP scripts to run. One option I am considering is seeing if there is a SIMPLE (meaning totally newby friendly) Linux build that might work. Does anyone have a recommendation on a Linux build that would include a web server, mail server and php compiler (or whatever the appropriate term is) that someone who has NEVER used linux could install, configure through some sort of reasonable "wizard," plug source files into and then go from there? Who can I tell if my remote linux server has had it's disk replaced? There was a disk failure on one of the two disks on our remote linux web servers. The provider says it's not a big deal but I told them to replace the disk. They are going to replaced the disk but I want to know for sure that they have done it. i need help setting up a linux web server? im using yellow dog 6.1 linux on my ps3 and i have been trying to configure apache web server . i have my domain for my dynamic dns and when i enter it into my web browser it only brings up my routers admin page . but the fact that it brings up the router admin page tells me i am getting close i just need to get my router to forward those incoming port 80 requests to my ps3 web server . in NAT pin holes i added the ports it said to add on motorollas web site but i still cant get it to work i even tried using ports 8080 for external and 80 for internal still no luck. i tried setting NAT to default server (wich supposedly is all you need to do according to the motorolla web site) anyone with network experience please help edit" my apache httpd.conf file looks like this Listen 80 NameVirtualHost * NameVirtualHost 192.168.1.2:* <VirtualHost 192.168.1.2:*> DocumentRoot /root/desktop/webserver </VirtualHost>

How to limit bandwidth on a linux web server? I have to setup a linux box as a web server. As web hosting providers do, I want to limit traffic monthly or at least meter it to know how much bandwidth has been used. What I want is what CPanel does: I want to meter the bandwidth used by services (http, pop, smtp, imap, ftp, etc.) and suspend the service if a limit is reached. This needs to be done in a per user/account basis. I have searched over internet, but I could only find solutions using iptables or similar and these solutions are only useful in a per IP or network interface basis. Another solution is use squid, but what I understand is that this can meter only HTTP traffic, not all traffic generated. I understand that CPanel is only a web interface to make easy configure a web server, and everything CPanel does can be done manually. So, if CPanel can do that... How can I do that manually? How to FTP Linux web logs to Windows server? Ive been trying to figure out a script that can run on a windows 2003 server that will ftp web logs from a linux box back to the windows box on a daily basis. Linux Web Server Unzipped files, now cannot overwrite? I have root access. Had unzipped some files using "unzip filename.zip". Now when I wish to overwrite some of the files using a normal FTP program, it tells me "access denied". I can't change the permissions using the FTP program. I have SSH access. I have forgotten the command that resets all the files to NORMAL (like it would be if uploaded using normal FTP). Could someone please tell me the command to reset all the files and folders as if it were uploaded by a normal FTP program?

I am trying to install the web server now using this guide: http://www.freelydifferent.com/self-hosting/lamp-for-linux-apache-mysql-php/ Before I started, I set up putty, fowarded port 22 and 80, configured the firewall to allow access through those ports and set up a domain with dyndns. Well, installation went well, and I got the error that the guide said I would, however the pid are different numbers. That probably isn't an issue though right? I'm expecting p id will be based on systems rather than somethind standard. The guide then goes on to say type this: sudo echo ServerName localhost >> /etc/apache2/apache2.conf or in my case replacing localhost with the domain I registered at dynsys. However, I get the following error: -bash: /etc/apache2/apache2.conf: Permission denied What should I do?

How do you get a Fedora Core 10 Linux based web server to be viewable from the outside world? So I've been working with Linux for the last month or two, and I've almost got everything worked out with it for now, but one problem I can't find any solution to is in regards to making the web pages viewable from the outside world, or even simpler, just the computer that are attached to the same router. Due to the specific needs, I will have to end up using port forwarding later on, but for now, I'm pretty sure I shouldn't need it just to get it viewed by the other computers hooked up to the router. I tried adding the port forwarding just in case that was wrong, but it still won't work. I made sure that /etc/init.d/httpd is started and working, and the web pages are viewable under this computer, regardless of if I view using localhost, or the ip address it uses with the router (192.168.0.5, router being 192.0.1 if those two ip addresses effect anything dramatically). Any suggestions on how to try and fix this? Oh, and I'm pretty new to linux (well, at least to webservers with linux, I have done many things on linux before though...) so sorry if I have bad wording for my question, or if I'm a bit slow at understanding your answer(s). Thanks for reading, and please help me if you can. Well, I contacted some experts, and apparently there is no logical explanation for what it is doing. According to all the experts I talked to, some of who even physically accessed the computer, it should work, and be accessable from the outside world, anywhere in the world. I have some people still looking into the matter, but apparently it might require me to re-install linux or at least some of it's packages and dependances to get it working... Sorry for poor spelling, It's close to 12 PM where I'm typing from. Anyways, thanks for your answer(s)...
