I setup a Virtual Linux Server/Client but couldn't connect to Internet? NEED HELP?!? I'm so used to using Windows& simply going to TCP/IP settings...On Open Suse...I found a bunch of network connection settings... but none where I could enlist an IP address coming from my current connection. There were many options such as I could list a host IP....Samba server, NIF server/client..but I don't believe thats what I want. When I do an ifconfig it simply shows the loopback address and it's not connecting to the internet w/o the IP and cannot browse the web

When using VMware Server, how do you transfer a virtual machine from a windows host to a linux host?

Getting to default server after establishing a virtual one? I am completely lost with Linux, I just got a VPS server with hopes in correct a problem with my site forms and it's starting to become a real hassle to understand this. Anyway, after much time, I've managed to install on my Centos-5 Linux server with no Control Panel, Webmin, MySQL, PHP, and Apache. I've managed to get a virtual server up and thanks to youtube, was able to sync it to my DNS. So now I can get to the virtual server using my domain name. Problem is, phpMyAdmin is stored in the default location where Apache looks by default and I need to get there. However, the only way to get there (from what I know) is to delete the virtual server and let the default server take over. This is very inconvenient especially if I just need to get into my database and change something quickly. Although Webmin has a database management tool, I prefer phpMyAdmin. How do I fix this and what do I need to do? I need to get to phpmyadmin not my database...

It installs a virtual ubuntu on your server (or laptop) and will easily deploy your server application, such as a blog or wiki or something. But what I don't understand is if a desktop virtual machine, like running linux in vmware or inside qemu or parallels, how can this be a good way to deploy web servers since it's demonstrably slow on the desktop. How to update Httpd.conf on linux server? 'm currently running a centos webserver. Within apache I have tomcat setup, in order to connect these two i'm using the JK Connector. I have it setup and working just fine for one website. My question: I just added a second website on a different ip/domain. At first when I looked at httpd.conf it was not listed in the virtual host. To fix this I restarted apache and it now appears in the httpd.conf as a virtual host. The virtual host listing for the first website has an include document at the end which allows me to put jk connection info in. The new website does not have this automatically generated include statement. I figured I would just add it in but the config file explicitly says "# DO NOT EDIT. AUTOMATICALLY GENERATED. IF YOU NEED TO MAKE A CHANGE PLEASE USE THE INCLUDE FILES." however there is no include file for this generated virtual host. Can I just type in the include statement and create the directory structure / file that the include points to? Or are there steps I need to take to have this include statement automatically generated? I want to make sure that if I add it in manually it doesn't get deleted when I restart apache. Networking two linux virtual machines? Hello folks, I am running WinXp and have two instances of ubuntu running on vmware server. I don't have a problem getting either of these guests OS talking to the host machine or the internet (I can do this via bridge or NAT) but I do have a problem getting the two guests communicating with each other. Any ideas or suggestions on how to get these two unbuntu instances to communicate without getting the host involved? I am trying to create an isolated network but is having difficulty finding online resources that is helpful. Thanks JC Per your suggestion, I tried and can ping the machines, can ping host from guests and guests from hosts but that is not exactly what I want. I need to make the host invisible to the guests - in other words, allow the two unbuntu instances to ping each other only.

Virtual host setup question Linux? I have setup a virtual domain setup on my server but on firefox for mac it requires that I have WWW as a prefix or it points to another virtual host if I don't but only on firefox for mac. At the moment, Im doing my own MCSE's, CompTIA certifications, etc. Whilst setting up different networks, I am having to use Windows 2003 and Routing and Remote Access Server to connect different lans together. i.e 10.10.1.0 to xxx.xxx.x.x. Working very well. No problems with the setup, except I want more Lans without the extra resources of Windows 2003 virtual servers! Yeah, Im running VMWares Workstation. So, how do I go about using Linux as a router. As I have heard this is possible to do. I have also heard that GPL Linux is very good, as its supposed to run from a keyring. Is this right? I'd love to have several routers on my virtual lan but using so little resources as my network is being run from 1 Pentium 4 805 Dual Core box. However when I try to hit the web server with individual IP addresses it responds with an error. A Problem with PUTTY connection on an ipcop firewall virtual network? Just recently started a networking task involving some oracle virtual box clients, and my home pc host. Ive configured an ipcop firewall to act as a secure gateway between a server, a demilitarized zone and an outside host (my pc). Ipcop uses the ip adapters Red (connectes ipcop to outside network) and Orange adapter (connects ipcop to a linux server. I've just installed Secure Shell (SSH) on the Linux server, now trying to connect to this using PUTTY from my pc, through the firewall. The rule is set on ipcop for port 22 against the Linux server ip address. Every time a timeout error occurs when connection through PUTTY is attempted. My Linux server is set to internal network adapter (i've heard that this can be a problem; some argue it should be bridged). Linux server can ping both red and Orange adapters on ipcop; likewise ipcop can ping the Linux server. My host pc can ping the red adapter, and vice versa, but cannot access the orange adapter. Could this be a problem with PUTTY, ipcop rule or SSH configurations? P.s. PUTTY cannot connect to any port or ip address on any protocol (i.e. Telnet, Rlogin, etc).

Windows XP SP2 Virtual Memory Issue? I have a Compaq EVO N600c notebook with 256MB RAM & 30GB HDD, which I had brought from TigerDirect.com back in May of 2007 with no O/S installed. I then brought Windows XP (SP2) and installed it along with my Belkin Wireless-G Wifi Card. It was working very good til I noticed I got hacked and was running a "Linux-Server" via BotNet. I was forced to buy another HDD (2.5" 250GB HDD & 1GB RAM). Re-installed all my programs, pictures, music, movies, etc. and my got hacked again. This time a encryption was illegally remotely installed and locked me out, while it was actually it was haunted when it was connected to DSL/Wifi. (powering up/down, opening programs/internet, and searching text files) for "Yabasic, SubSeven, MIT Scripts & Government files". But that's another story. Anyways, after re-installing XP Home (SP2), my computer keeps loading stuff I can't see all the time and saying "Virtual Memory Is Low". How can I fix this problem without maxing out RAM/HDD space, which I have done???

Is there a Utility for restore of non-Windows backups on Windows Server 2008? I have files backed up to LTO tape from a Unix/Linux system (or possibly other legacy systems) and I would like to restore them on my Windows Server 2008 system. Does anyone know of a utility that will facilitate this? Windows Server 2008 does not support assigning the tape drive to a device designator, so I can't even find a way to simply copy the tape to disk which is probably all I need. I also have tried several Windows centric solutions such as ntbackup and Backup Exec that can see the drive and read the tape headers, but they only seem to be willing to work with their own tape formats. I can't believe that nothing like this exists. I suppose that building either a seperately bootable or virtual Linux system would work, but I'd hate to go to all that trouble just to get at a few files, but at this point I will entertain any even semi-reasonable workaround solution. The only tape drive I have is the internal LTO-4 in my HP DL580 G5 running Window Server 2008 standard.

If I switch my desktop to Ubuntu Linux using VMWare server can I copy my workstations over? So I don't lose all the work and setup? VMWare Player - Ubuntu 8.10 Server help - how to enable networking? I have downloaded the free VMWare Player from vmware.com and the Ubuntu 8.10 Server image from linhost.info. The virtual machine boots up fine, but has no networking capability. I have clicked on the Network Card icon and tried every setting, but still, the Linux Guest OS inside cannot detect a (virtual) NIC. Any ideas? Thanks

I want to import my emails from linux to outlook? i installed microsoft virtual machine on my computer. and using the virtual machine i installed linux on it. it was working fine. when i configured my email on the default email client of linux it was successfull and downloaded all the emails. but it deleted all the emails from the server. Since my outlook was in caching mode its all empty. Please help me to get my emails back to my outlook. Is there anyway in outlook that will retrive my mails. or what are the possible ways? Will Virtual PC 2007 recognize 64bit if it is installed on a 32bit OS? This is somewhat of a confusing question... The system that I am using has 8GB of RAM. 32bit only supports 3gb of that. The system is actually going to mainly be used as a server, which will be hosted on a virtual PC. If I install another operating system (say.. Linux Ubuntu 64 bit) will this virtual pc recognize my computer as having a full 8GB or memory or only 3GB because it is restricted by the 32bit OS that is being installed from? Wow.. I feel confused just asking that. Win XP 32bit > Ubuntu 64 Bit on Virtual PC > Does Ubuntu get the full 8GB or ram or only 3? Yes, I have gb ram on 64bit windows 7 currently. However, Windows 7 Home edition isn't supported by Virtual PC (only Professional+) I need to have a computer that can fulfill 2 tasks... Windows based and capable of using Photoshop/Dreamweaver and also being a server. Because of this, I was wanting to host a virtual PC. The virtual PC would have a copy of Linux on it. On the server, I would need the full 8GB or ram. On the Windows part of it, I wouldn't neccessarily need the full 8gb. (I have a copy of Win XP Pro but it is only 32bit). I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place. I can't dual boot because I need to have both running at the same time. Unless I can find some hosting software (possibly XXAMP) to host from on Windows 7 Home and don't worry about the Linux part of it. For anyone else with this problem, I have found an answer. How limiting is the linux kernel? In developemental terms... Lets say I want to make a new operating system compatible with current hardware, therefore requiring a good kernal. Since the linux kernel supports most of the hardware available today, I want to use that. But does that mean I am limited to the standard things like the x server and how things work? I guess the main question is... If I were to create a minimalistic linux system that had java runtime on it, would I be able to make an operating system entirely using java? That way every single program created for the operating system would work on every single computer that supports linux because of the java virtual machine? (look up jnode if you have no idea what i'm talking about, they did it only using their own kernal, and it has horrible hardware support) to the first answer, it's not the same... the linux kernel is only there for the hardware support until the java virtual machine kicks in, after that the only programs that will work are java based

Linux for an extreme beginner??? I am interested in learning the basics of linux. Im interested in setting up my own web server and mail server. However I have no idea where to start. Im really confused with all the types of installations. Where do you suggest I start? Live CD I guess is the best way. I have a box with nothing on it at home. But I also have a macbook here at school with me running parallels windows xp so i guess I could download a live cd and run it in the virtual machine windows for practice I wont have to worry about running my mac because it is running virtually right? Why won't DMZ work with my router? I have a D-Link router, and as of late it's been getting on my nerves. I want to set one computer in my LAN in a DMZ in order for it to be a server. It's running Ubuntu Linux, so I don't have to worry much about viruses and whatnot. However, no matter what I do, that server computer has the same IP as my router, as do all the other computers in my LAN. I made a DHCP reservation for the server computer to have the same internal IP address at all times. However, I don't know if I have to do anything else inside Linux for it to work. No port forwarding or virtual server settings are in effect anymore for the server computer. It's like DMZ isn't working at all. What can I do to fix this? Oh yeah, and I did enable DMZ for the server's internal IP address. It's not as simple as that to fix it. =P I don't know how to set my Linux machine to have a static IP. Whenever I try, the internet doesn't work at all on it. I set it to DHCP, and then make a DHCP reservation on my router for the server to have the same internal IP address. And I have DSL, and this computer has been used as a server before. It's just recently that it's decided to hate me... ever since my router change.... The old router was D-Link though. And no, I can't find that router to compare settings. And yes, I have the correct IP address. I'm not an idiot.

Creating a VMWare Server Datastore? I'm looking to create a linux workstation so I can become more familiar with the OS. I tried making an actual instillation when I got my copy of Vista, as I reformat and installed Vista, XP, and Linux. But my UBUNTU instillation messed up somehow and loads to text-based rather than GNOME, no fun. So now that I'm on vista and have my VMWare Server 2 installed, I'm on the management page and since I'm new to this version, it's yelling at me to make a datastore which seems to be a lot more difficult than I had imagined. I used VMWare in the past and never made one, and clueless as to what mistake I am making. When I try to create one, I name it Test and set it to local. Local parameters I've played a bunch and I figured something like C:/Virtual Machines/Datastore would work out. Is my syntax incorrect? Do I need to create the folder before setting it to the datastore? I am completely oblivious... any tips or walk through on creating it?

Motherboard Suggestions? I currently do support work for a local company and I am looking to get into it privately, but I am not looking to buy a complete server farm for my home office. I am looking for a new desktop motherboard that will accomplish the following. I would like to have a max memory of 8-16Gb. I would like to be able to support dual monitors - possibly add a second card, but mb support would be great. I would like the ability to run at least 4 virtual machines in succession - Vista, XP, Linux, and OS10 all on top of the new Win 7.
