What is a good school/program in Illinois for Computer Networking? I already have a degree in networking but the school I went to mainly taught us how the lower layers operate. There were also quite a few classes that were there to develop our conceptual knowledge of how everything ties together. For example classes in web design, databases, server-side programming, and a variety of others. I learned almost nothing about setting up servers, creating users accounts, configuring routers.. I barely know anything about using servers other than there general jobs like DNS, E-Mail, Active Directory, etc. Some of you might be thinking "well you'll learn it in the field" but I've been applying for jobs over the past two years and all of the interviews I have gotten have been for high-skill work that requires the equivalent of a CCNA and MCSE. A Web Host sets up a dedicated server with the IP address 69.5.75.32 and they use Googles Public DNS (8.8.8.8, 8.8.4.4). What's to say I can't enter that IP on my computer if I have the same Internet Service Provider? (the Web Host uses Cogent ISP and I use Cogent ISP). I want to be able to run a script that will walk the file system and tell me what files have changed on my web server since the last time the script ran. So, for example, if someone logs in and edits index.html, then next time I ran the tool it would tell me index.html file had changed. How do I get my Home Network, which has a running web server, to work with external web addresses? I have a web server running inside my home network. I want my computers running on this home network to be able to use the external web address instead of having to use the internal IP address assigned by my router. For example, if I type what an external person would to get to my web server, on my PCs inside it doesn't work. If I type the internal IP address assigned by the router, it works. Is there any hardware requirement assessment tool for a web-based company? I am wondering if there are any tools available online that can provide us with rough estimates on the number of servers(web servers, database servers, storage) that is needed to smoothly operate a web-based company? I have looked at server hardwares and they range greatly in prices from 2000 to 12000 to even more. But none of them exactly tell me the load that they can handle. They are categorized as Small Business, Medium and Large Business. I am interested in knowing something like for example: A million people visiting my web portal in a day, running 100 million database queries in a day and each accessing about 10-15MBs of content etc etc. then exactly what size of server farm do I need. Maybe a tool that can ask me these type of questions and based on my input, provide with some estimates? Is this kind of information only available when you talk to hardware vendors? I am planning to do a load test using Mercury load runner but need to know how many virtual users I will need to simulate the true number of concurrent connections required. How do I know if my web application needs to be load balanced? I have a web site with 100K+ users. It's running on a Linux box . Is there a way for me to know that it's time to start using a load balancer? The site seems to be pretty responsive, and there are alternatives available like hosting images or content on another server for example.

need help with Apache Web server? ive set everything up so far by following the tutorial on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7rDuxsrpvQ&feature=PlayList&p=2EA956ED73CAAB43&index=3 ive made a web folder in C and done all the config but the strange thing is is that when i go to local host it still says it works when i type my routers ip for example - 192.168... When i type my ip then it says *this is my new web folder* but it should be saying that when i type *localhost* in the addreass bar now im not to sure but is it best that it works from my routers IP or best that it works from my ip ?

I cannot connect to any web based server? So, i come home from school and find that i cant connect to any web based program on my other computer. Like examples are when i try to log onto game servers it says login failed or when i try type in gmail.com the website cant come up if i try to log on to yahoo answers it wont work (on sis's comp) if my lil bro tries to play runescape or poptropica it cant connect. I can go to google and all these other sites. but if i try to open any sites with a log in int wont connect or when i try to login it wont connect, plz help me

Why is the formatting different in the root web server directory? If i navigate to http://127.0.0.1 then the directory listing page(assuming ther eis no index.html, index.php....., just the default view).. has a slightly different font formating than if i navigate to http://86.87.89.98 (<<-- example ip--- i.e my external IP) etc .. I think it is just that the font is a bit larger for the http://86.87.89.98 but it is very noticable, the font also increases for websites as well for example, http://86.87.89.98/page.html Reall strange, its the same directory just a different path to get there....? Proxy web servers and internet? Hi. I know how to use proxy web server when I'm accessing the internet through mozilla for example. But I have one particular program that accesses the internet (automatically upon start-up). Can I get it to use a proxy to access it. Is this even possible ? Port Forwarding? Okay, my SOHO network goes like this: Internet > (Pluged into) > Router > (Pluged into) > Windows 2003 SBS > (Pluged into) > Switch > (Pluged into) > Webserver. Now currently, the windows 2003 SBS server is the DCHP server but, I want it to forward port 80 to my other server. How do I do this on my Windows 2003 SBS Server? Information on how to implement "pause/resume download" for IIS server.? Greetings, Can someone please provide me with the information on how to implement or how "pause/resume download" works. Example, if I have a file at web server and I started downloading, in between something happened and I need to pause now, when I start it has to start from the place where it stopped. I do know there are some softwares like IDM / DAP which perform same task but I like to know how they work. I like to know how client browser know from where to download. Web Servers? Are certain web servers better than others. For example if I had the exact same website with the same bandwidth and diskspace hoted on a freewebs server 1 km away and did the exact same thing on a pizco server 1 km away would one site run faster or more effeciently

Accessing web mysql database server? Hi..I have a question..I have a single table mysql database on a webserver..and I need to know how you access it etc. and what do I type in the log in box i have for navicat.. On phpmyadmin it is simple, but it doesn't give me the information where I can log in and manipulate my mysql db from other software.. Navicat login screen for example..asks HostName....(is this for example.."http://mycompany.com/localhost")? doesnt work if it is.. root and password are ok, and so is port.. So to sum up.. is there anywhere I can find my hostname or host ip address using phpmyadmin or cpanel, so I can bung these in either navicat or various mysqlapps (dreamweaver et) to access change and view my db locally, and build interfaces? If I develop a website with a service such as freewebs or tripod, do I need a server, such as apache? I'm still a little confused. If I get a free domain name from a web hosting service, I don't need a server. If start paying money per month for a web site, do I need to download a server, for example, Apache? What steps must be taken for perodic maintaince of a web server? My company will be moving from a shared hosted server to a dedicated server (Unix). I understand that on a dedicated server, we will be responsible to do everything which includes maintaince. Can you please tell me what must I do on a regular and perodic interval to keep the server running smoothly. I am aware that it depends to a large extent on the applications running, but other than that (application independant) what do I need to do? Like for example (just from the top of my head) reboot it on a regular interval (whats a good time frame) or should I never reboot it unless it give a problem? How do I monitor that the server is always up and running, are there any tools which will monitor the server status and send a message to my cell phone when the server goes down? I am sure there may be many such things, everyone, PLEASE tell me everything you know in this issue, I want to be prepared as much as I can. Thanks a TON everyone.

Visual Basic 2005 talking to a server? Can someone tell me, or point me to a good tutorial on how to get a program to read from a server across the web. For example, I have a program, installed on my computer, so do a few other people in different places. Where can I find dynamic web plug-ins that are C based? Most programmers are able to use a language such as PHP, ASP, Java, etc... in developing dynamic web pages. However, I'm developing on a very limited embedded platform that has a web server that only supports C-based plug-ins. An HTML or SSI page can be created with a directive to a plug-in, which is just a C function call. The plug-in can then perform the necessary action. This is cumbersome, of course. Are there any online resources that have information, examples, sample scripts, tutorials, etc. regarding C-based plug-ins? I am using the Nucleus RTOS Web Server, but what I'm looking for are more or less generic examples of C functions that handle web requests, HTML output, etc...

Is hosting your own server off of your own computer COMPLETELY free, including having a domain name? I heard i can upload my html file to a web server to make the url shorter, using a yahoo as a example and "mypage" as a example i heard once u upload it the new url would be "www.yahoo.com/mypage.html" but i dont understand if this is correct or what..if it is correcnt..how do i do it!?!?!!?
