How do I check the PGP signatures of my Apache Server software on a Windows XP version? I've been reading a lot about Apache and how powerful it is as a web server. The only problem I've found with it so far, as with every other Linux based program, is the lack of well written and detailed instructions. I read that it's important to verify your copy of Apache against the keys that are found on the Apache, org site. I downloaded the MD5 program but I have no idea what to do next. Can anyone help me figure out how to do this for the Windows XP version?
Web Server help needed? Hello, I want to install a web server on my Windows XP computer. I downloaded Apache, and when I install it, it asks for the domain name, but I don't have one. Is there some generic one that I can use? The web server is only for my home computer and I don't intend on opening it up to the world. It is just for personal use to learn on. Is Apache the best way to go or is there something else?
Can I run ASP.VBSCRIPT on Apache 2.2.8? I'm a beginner learning web design using Dreamweaver MX and start dealing with database and recordset. I was told that I need a web server in order for me to test my work, so I've downloaded and installed Apache HTTP Server for Windows 2.2.8 because my WinXP Home doesn't have IIS. It seems alright at first but when I try to preview my work (with some simple recordset made) on the browser, it asks me to download the .asp file and re-open it on Dreamweaver instead of showing it on the browser. So does this mean that my Apache server cannot run ASP.VBSCRIPT? What should I do then? Someone told me to install an asp mode into Apache but I really don't know how to do it? Please help..
Its a Firewall Exercise Pls get me the answers for 10 questions? Setting up a firewall configuration for a small business A small company with computer resources consisting of a Ubuntu server and a Windows server, a group of desktops and laptops requests a network setup and firewall configuration that will provide more security and control. Two machines will be used as firewalls. They have decided on a network topology where the laptops and desktops are placed in the same subnet, but they are separated by a level two bridge. This makes it possible to install a stealth firewall on this bridge. (Conviniently the topology is equal to your virtual network, except for the bridge, so you need to change this for your virtual network.) In addition theywant a web based graphical logging of the amount of connections to their site. Installing server and client software In order to make the network more realistic and thereby also testing the firewall setup, you shall start by installing somserver software. It is a good idea to install the software and make sure it works before you start implementing the firewalls. apache2 on Ubuntu Stop and remove the apache server running at the gateway, you should not run a webserver at your gateway. Next install apache2 on server1. If you are not able to sudo su on some of the VM’s, try just su and the same password. Installation is straightforward: server1 # apt-get install apache2 Then you enter the following (apt-get install nano (or jed) if you need an editor, use copy and paste) in the file /var/www/index.html <h1>Server1: Ubuntu webserver at 10.0.0.4</h1> 1 Entering 10.0.0.4 in Firefox at the gateway, this text you entered should pop up if everything is correct. apache2 onWindows XP Next you should do the same on server2, the Windows server. Google for ‘apache install Windows’ or follow the instructions at http://www.ricocheting.com/server/apache.html. It ismost strightforward if you download the selfextracting msi-file. Use version 2.2.6 or newer. Enter your email-adress when asked. After finishing the installation, choose Config Apache Server and edit config file from the Start-menu and enter the IP-address 10.0.0.3 as ServerName (No name is obviously registered in DNS for this host). If you enter 10.0.0.3 in firefox at the gateway, you should now be able to see the text ’It works’. Try to find out how to change it to a similar text as server1. (Hint: C:\Program Files\Apache Software Foundation\Apache2.2\htdocs\index.html) Munin at server1 The Ubuntu Web-server should run Munin in order to enable you to generate a web-GUI with statistics from the two firewalls. You need just the Munin master node on server1 which you install by apt-get install munin Next you edit the file /etc/munin/munin.confand the only change you need there is to add [gateway.vm] address 10.0.0.1 use_node_name yes [choke.vm] address 10.0.0.2 use_node_name yes which makes Munin collect data from gateway and choke. At the choke (and gateway, but there you have probably already installed it) you just install munin-node which collects data for the Munin master by apt-get install munin-node and here you can write plugins and stop and start the munin-node. At the bottom of /etc/munin/munin-node.conf on both the choke and the gateway you need to add 2 allow ^10\.0\.0\.4$ and restart munin-node in order to allow server1 to collect data from the munin-nodes. You should now be able to see data from both the gateway and the choke if you from the gateway browse at 10.0.0.4/munin. Later you will receive more instructions on the plugins you should write. Remote Desktop Server at server2 This server is already running and should continue to run. MySQL on desktop and server1 In the real case the webservers retrives some of their content from a common database, a MySQL-server running on server1. However, the company does not want to have their database containing some sensitive data in the DMZ. So another MySQL-server is running on the Desktop-machine (10.0.2.2) inside the LAN.However, don’t do the installation of these databases, just pretend they are installed. You are not supposed to set up more services than those mentioned here. When MySQL, samba and other services are mentioned later, pretend they are present in the network. Network Policy The employee working in the company in charge of the project does not have an education in networking, but he is able to give a rough description of their desired network policy. • Everything that is not specified will be dropped. • The laptops and desktops may surf the Internet, but the servers may not. • SSH access to the internal choke firewall machine is only allowed from the server1 and the desktops. The gateway of the site will allow incoming ssh connections from the Internet and the desktops only. • The laptops are allowed to access the samba (SMB) server on the d

Ubuntu from dead Windows Vista installation? I have a computer modem / tower a HP Compaq Presario running a x86 processor. It died because I didn't have a license key for Windows Vista, so now I don't have a desktop IDE (integrated desktop (not development / data) enviroment). So I would like to know how I would install Ubuntu from the downloader, is it a boot image? If so how do I use it on a dead Operating System? Yes, I have discs (write-once) but not many DVDs, I know the file size is 700MB. I just need a Linux web server running Ubuntu Server Edition from download. I refuse to wait for disc and need installation ASAP (As Soon As Possible)! The installation package I want is Ubuntu server, LAMP should be available (by the way I hate Apache and will install Abyss for Linux over it), but I would like MySQL and PHP at hand (not ASP.NET, ASP.NET only works rarely on Kubuntu machines (personal experience). I liked the looks of Linux, it isn't like Windows it is kind of like what I need, but not the full ticket like Mac OS X and Windows (even though I have a Mac and Windows Vista machine already). Sorry if it is TOO much information, but I know it is a question and no problem from installation / download has been made yet, so before I install and download and no doubt end up with a problem, where can I get a Windows disc burner? By the way, what is LaunchPad? I'll rephrase that, I want to download Ubuntu, but Windows Vista is in a limited state as it has not be registered with a license key, which was never purchased. So I do not have a desktop but I do have application access, like Windows Help, Explorer, Installer, etc. Tommorow I am going to get it the box setup, turn it on, etc. Then I will download a ISO file to disc image burner (700MB). Can you answer this question: Can Ubuntu boot from a DVD? I mean it stores more data. Can it also be a write-once burn as well? I have 2 DVDs available and 5 CDs, I do not wish to use them all. I have 0 DVD-RDLs. I just hope it works, after the machine is setup I will download Ubuntu under my 54MBPS connection via the router (original connection is 1,024MBPS and 100MB), so it should be fairly quick. Then I will need to burn it right? After that I will install Ubuntu from the burn, then what happens? I re-insert the disc and boot it as an installation at start-up, or does it go straight into it? It will be server edition with LAMP. Plus, I will use Abyss Web Server for Linux on it as it uses alot of programming languages. If Kubuntu works better, does it? As long as Kubuntu has PHP, MySQL (or I download it) and has compatibility for Abyss Web Server, this maybe the wrong forum, but I only want, what I need. Does some Windows programs work on it alright? If so, can I will install that instead, then rename all my posts containing 'Ubuntu' in this topic to 'Kubuntu', okay? Please reply, I need community support! Frontend/gui for apache? I use IIS on win xp and i am trying out Ubuntu? I hear that the preferred web server for linux distros is Apache. I have installed Apache but i can't find any thing that remotely resembles the IIS control tool that is in windows? I am wondering if such a thing exists and if it does, what is it called so that i can download it? Or is it just better form me to study and try to learn the httpd.conf files? If so, which website has an easy tutorial?
need help with installing PHP for windows? Im following the instructions from a book (as well as from a website). I have downloaded two files; php-5.2.6-Win32.zip and pecl-5.2.6-Win32.zip. As stated in the book, it says that: begin by unzipping the ZIP file to the directory of your choice. The usual location is c:\php, and we use this location in the following explaination. You can install the PECL libraries by unziping the PECL file to your extensions directory. Using c:\php as your base directory, this will be c:\php\ext\. Now follow these steps: 1.In the main directory you will see a file called php.exe and one called php5ts.dll. 2.Set up a php.ini configuration file. PHP comes with two prepared files: php.ini-dist and php.ini-recommended. We suggest you use php.ini-dist while you are learning PHP or on development servers AND use php.ini-recommended on production servers. Make a copy of this file and RENAME it as php.ini. 3. Edit your php.ini file. It contains many settings. The settings you need to change are as follows: - change the extension_dir directive to point to the directory where your extension DLLs reside. In teh normal install, this is C:\PHP\ext. Your php.ini will therefore contain extension_dir = c:/php/ext - Set the doc_root directive to point at the root directory from which your web server serves. This is likely to be -doc_root = "c:/Program Files/Apache Software Foundation/Apache2.2/htdocs" if you are using Apache. .................................................................................. So my problems are: 1. I dont see the "php.exe" in the main directory as mentioned in the book. I only found the php5ts.dll. 2.How to set up the "php.ini" configration as mentioned in step 2? and how to rename it?? And i cant open the php.ini-dist NOR php.ini-recommended file. 3. How to edit the php.ini file? and change the directory as mentioned in steps 3? I really need your help asap. Many thanks.
Where do I start with Java Web Services (to expose a legacy application)? I have a "legacy" command line executable on a solaris machine that I would like to expose as a web service. I'd like to send a SOAP message from a Windows (.NET) application over the network to the Solaris legacy app, and then for a SOAP response to come back containing the "answers". I have put together a simple "doubler" application on solaris. The idea is that the windows machine sends "2" in a SOAP message to receive a "4" back from solaris (ie 2 doubled) by the doubler application. Getting number from doubler isn't a problem e.g. JNI or a system call will sort that out, but its getting that answer into a webservice is the bit I have trouble grasping. I am unsure of the server I should use on solaris - Apache (the built in server)? or download Tomcat? Apache does HTTP stuff, so is that enough for SOAP. I am confused!! Thanks for your helps.
Apache won't serve PHP as HTTP? I'm teaching myself the art of web-serving as I teach myself the art of web-mastering. I'm running a Linux Ubuntu server with Webmin in place of a standard GUI. I used the Webmin package update tool to update 40-some updates, including about 5 Apache-oriented ones. Immediately after, I updated my version of Ubuntu (to 9.10). Since then, I have been unable to get PHP files from my server. When I type in a correct URL for a PHP document, the browser (doesn't matter which) pops up the standard download options window. From those options, I opened the file up in Notepad and noticed that the PHP script is properly assembled, it's just not being delivered as HTTP. What can I do? This is only a problem for PHP files. Every other format works fine. PHP is installed and runs. As I said, the PHP script compiles perfectly fine. I'm looking for something a little more specific than "check the file". What do I check for?
Running Joomla on my computer? I ran the following instructions from another note that I found the answer to my question, I have one problem. Under Projects, nothing shows up. Where am I supposed to put my Joomla folder so that it shows up as a project? ------------------------------- Running and Testing Joomla Without a Hosting Account You cannot download Joomla and try to run it on your computer like an exe file. It has to have a web server, which means you need to have a hosting account. Sounds obvious, but I have had a couple of people if they needed windows XP to run Joomla! Now, before we shell out our hard earned money for a hosting account, there is something else you can do first. You can actually run a web server on your local computer, in other words, your desktop or laptop. This is known as having a localhost. It may sound like I just contradicted myself from the previous paragraph, but not quite. You cant "run" Joomla itself on your own computer, but you can install a localhost web server for it to "run on". What you need to pull this off is some software that runs Apache, PHP and MySQL on your computer. These are the same software packages that power websites. There are two popular ones, WAMP (www.wampserver.com/en/index.php) and XAMPP (www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp.html) and they are both free (PGL license) I am going to quickly run through setting up WAMP, not that this package is windows specific. Download WAMP from the above link, and then install it. It will create a folder c:/wamp/www Run WAMP, you should get a handy icon in your system tray: You need the dial to be white to continue. Note if you run Skype, it interferes with WAMP and so you have to start WAMP without Skype running (and then start Skype if you need it) Now open a browser and go to localhost (no "www") You should see the following page: If you are not seeing this then you should stop and figure out why. You have to get this page before you can proceed. The WAMP site has some helpful troubleshooting FAQ's and a forum. You should see your folder called "Joomla" in the list of Your Projects. Click on that folder and you will get taken to that "website".
phpinfo won't work, its blank? My very first script, "phpinfo();" shows blank And I can't try others if this wouldn't work..... even phpMyAdmin Please, I'm a young web developer... just venturing into dynamic content. I downloaded and I installed Apache 2.2.15(Win32) first next, I installed MySQL 5.1.49 Comminity Server then finally, I installed PHP (php-5.3.3-Win32-VC6-x86) I installed according to manual... After Restarting my system, (SPECS: Windows Vista 32bit, 1.83Ghz Core 2Duo, 3GB RAM, 250GB HDD) My Apache Service Monitor's status was(down the window) "Apache/2.2.15(Win32)/PHP/2.3.3" I've checked my phpinfo.ini file, but no problem... After reinstalling several times.. I get Error 404 on my webbrowser "NOT FOUND" "The requested URL /Program Files/PHP/php-cgi.exe/phpinfo.php was not found on this server." What do I do? or where do you suggest I check for possible answers? any links? Thanks
WAMP Server 2.0i Removal/Uninstall/Delete from my Windows 7? I want to completely delete/remove/uninstall WAMP Server 2.0i from my computer (including registry files that might left on Windows 7). I also want to delete/remove/uninstall anything related to: - Apache 2.2.11 - MySQL 5.1.36 - PHP 5.3.0 which came with WAMP 2.0i when I installed it on my Windows 7 machine. The reason why I am uninstalling WAMP 2.0i: I created a basic database (id, username, password) on my computer (localhost) on phpMyadmin just for education purposes and I got this error: MySQL said: Documentation "#1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)" I am able to access "http://localhost/phpmyadmin/setup/index.php" on phpMyAdmin 3.2.0.1 setup but it says: "Cannot load or save configuration Please create web server writable folder config in phpMyAdmin top level directory as described in documentation. Otherwise you will be only able to download or display it." It also says that there are no servers configured. Whenever I go to WAMP Server 2.0 -> MySQL -> MySQL console, it asks me to enter my password and just hit the enter button (because I don't think I set a password for MySQL) and it welcomes me to the MySQL monitor (which seems pretty normal and functioning to me). All I want to do is start from scratch as if I am installing WAMP 2.0i on my computer for the first time. I haven't installed ANY program besides WAMP 2.0i. I just want to learn how the program works from the comfort of my localhost. Is there anyway I can start on a clean slate? I found the answers to my problem, here's my solution: There's a file called "config.inc.php" in C:\wamps\apps\phpmyadmin3.2.0.1 folder. In the config.inc.php file, I was missing this line of code: $cfg['blowfish_secret'] = ''; Since I didn't have a password set for MySQL, there is nothing in between the ''.
Should I install virus scanner on virtual os? I downloaded Sun virtual box on my computer and I'm going to install windows xp as a guest os and run apache web server on it. Should I install a virus scanner in that os? My host os is windows 7 professional and I have McAfee virus scanner on it.
i need help with apache!? ok. here's the situation. I have setup a web hosting server using "Uniform Server" which i downloaded from the internet. i have a domain name and its DNS is set to my WAN IP and it works fine. I would like to know how i can now add another 'site' so when people type in www.domain2.com it comes up with domain2 site still hosted on the same server. I know it can be done as I have seen it - i just don't know how to do it. my system is windows xp and like i say, it is Uniform Server with MySQL, PHP and Apache all as 1 package.
How do I install a web-based program? I downloaded a database program that's supposedly web-based and I'm having trouble installing it. It even came with instructions, but they are way over my head. The download came with a .project file, a .sql file, a .war file, and several other files named "INSTALL", "README", etc with no extension. I got lucky and was able to open the install file. I uploaded the whole package to my website and then went to where the install file is located (http://www.easymoneypawnshop.com/admin/INSTALL). If you go there you will see, but it opens to a set of instructions that make no sense to me: "1. Download Apache Tomcat 5 (tested on apache-tomcat-5.5.25) tar xvzf apache-tomcat-5.5.25.tar.gz 2. Download and Install Mysql 5 (tested on 5.0.51a) on command prompt, mysql -u root -p on sql> prompt, create database aspe; grant all privileges on aspe.* to 'aspe'@'localhost' identified by 'aspe'; quit 3. Extract package tar xvzf prenda-0.1.1.tar.gz cd prenda 4. Copy aspe.war to webapps folder of Tomcat cp aspe.war /path/to/tomcat/webapps 5. On command prompt, mysql -u aspe -p aspe < aspe.sql 6. Go to bin folder of Tomcat cd /path/to/tomcat/bin on linux, ./startup.sh on windows, startup.bat 7. Point your browser to http://localhost:8080/aspe (adjust port on Tomcat's server.xml) Admin:admin/123 " Can someone please hold my hand and tell me what I need to do to get this thing running???? Thanks in advance!
HOW DO I TURN MY COMPUTER INTO A SERVER? I have an old Windows ME (Millenium Edition) that if needed, I can install Windows XP on. I can't do much with it so I wanted to turn it into a server computer. I've seen websites like this, instead of a .com its web address is an IP address. How do I do this to my computer? I heard of a program called Apache but when I tried to download it, rather than being an exe file it was either in an HTTP or FTP mirror. If the HTTP or FTP mirrors are the only way to download a program to do this than I don't mind unless there's an easier way.
