Why would someone use Data Pipe and not somebody like Godaddy for dedicated hosting? I found out the company I work for is paying $1300 a month for hosting with Data Pipe. That is ridiculous!! My own experience has been with smaller sites and we have only pay $3 a month understandably we have a smaller site. But I looked at Data Pipe and they have no prices or information about their servers listed just a bunch of fluff that really doesn't tell me why they would be so much more expensive than something like Go Daddy's unlimited Dedicated servers which are at the most $500 and they can support the site and databases that these guys have. I am not a tech geek, but I just don't understand why someone would pay double for what it looks like, is the same service. Help: People are unable to connect to my TF2 server (router issues)? To start off with, I have a ZyXEL ZyAIR G-2000 router and I have the following ZyNOS firmware version: V3.60(HI.1) Whenever I am connected to the internet via my router and set up a dedicated server on my PC for Team Fortress II (using the Team Fortress II Dedicated Server program that is provided by Steam), my server does not show up on the Internet Servers list, and people are also not able to connect to my server by either manually adding my server’s IP to their favorites list or by joining through Steam; whenever my friend would try to connect, he would get a “Server does not respond” message. Note that I am able to join other servers just fine when I am connected to the internet via my router; it is only that nobody can join my server. On the other hand, when my PC is directly connected to my modem and my router is not involved at all, there are no problems: my server shows up on the Internet Servers list, and my friend (the same one who cannot connect when my router is involved) is able to connect to my server. I can’t see any reason why my server shouldn’t show up on the Internet Servers list and why people can’t to my server when my router is involved, as the firewalls on both my PC and my router are off, services blocking on my router is disabled, and all ports (both for Steam Client and Steam Server) that are needed for this game (which I obtained from portforward.com and then cross-referenced with the information on Steam’s website, so I know that I am not missing any ports) are forwarded to my machine on our LAN; I setup a local static IP address on this machine so that my local IP address is always the same for port-forwarding purposes. Additionally, the default server is set to 0.0.0.0 on my router’s SUA/NAT page, and all of the local IP addresses on our LAN are mapped to one single global IP address (the global IP address is not static) from our internet provider (many-to-one address mapping scheme). What makes this issue even more interesting is that I am able to host a dedicated server for at least one game (it’s possible that I may be able to host servers for other games as well, but I haven’t ever tried to host a server for any of the other games that I play as I have no need to do so) on my PC when I am connected to the internet via my router: I have been hosting a dedicated server on my PC for the game Star Wars: Battlefront II for over three years with no issues of users not being able to connect to my server. I have also never needed to forward any ports for this game. I don’t know if this may have any relation to this particular problem, but I also see these access blocked notices in my router’s logs quite frequently: Packet without a NAT table entry blocked: ICMP(type:3, code:3) Packet without a NAT table entry blocked: ICMP(type:3, code:11) Any help to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Can't send POP3 email to Yahoo & Hotmail only but there is no problem to receive mails I have leased a new dedicated server and host there few of my doamins. I'm using Microsoft Outlook Express to send and received POP3 mails for those domains and Can't send POP3 email to Yahoo & Hotmail only but there is no problem to receive mails from those. I'm new to these hosting, so I was kinda want some advice and tips on how should I manage my server

Question about dedicated servers? i am a web host at the moment and have been going for a while now, i want to improve my service to my customers by offering dedicated servers. can i go to any dedicated server company for example http://www.redstation.com/ and offer those servers to my clients, when my client buys from me i then buy from that company and put in my clients details? am i allowed to do this? Network of Dedicated Servers? I am looking for a number of servers (say 40 dedicated machines) each with their own IP, not in the same IP address range, spread around the world. It can be Linux of windows PCs. Does anyone know of a good solution or service for this? I have looked into EC2 from Amazon but they do not have the support I need. Ideas? Note: I am not looking for caching services or exclusively web hosting. The machines should have different external IPs, possibly different locations and also be able to run desktop windows applications. The servers will be working independently. They will also be running a .NET desktop application and another 3rd party windows application and need a connection to the internet. Linux or Mono wont work. Linux would work if the version support vmware.

tnsnames.ora still getting ORA-12154 error on logon? I have added the following to my TNSNAMES.ORA file: RRR = (DESCRIPTION = (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <********my host name, for privacy***>)(PORT = 1521)) (CONNECT_DATA = (SERVER = DEDICATED) (SERVICE_NAME = RRR) ) ) Still when I try to log on I keep getting one of those nasty ORA-12154 errors (cannot resolve identifier). What am I doing wrong or what should I check? Please explain in detail; I'm not an expert at all :-)

Do I need to pay tax to resold services on 1099? I am in consulting business and sometimes I buy hosting/dedicated server and resold to clients with little or no markup fee. In year 2008 tax return, I found that these monthly services compensation were taxed as my 1099 income. How am I going able to avoid this? I don't make money out of these monthly services I use it only as a tool to stay closer with my clients. Example : I spent $2000 for leasing dedicated server each month and receive payment of $2100 to cover the cost. Buy end of fiscal year I have a gain of $25,200 on paper ($2100 x 12) but real gain is only $1200 ($100 x 12). Is there a better way to pay tax gain of $1200 only? What about tax bracket? If these monthly services keep add up am I going to end up paying higher tax bracket where the compensation won't be enough to cover the cost? Assume leasing server space become $4000/month..

How can Amazon Web Services best be used for hosting multiple websites? I work at a web agency and have several clients we would put on a single dedicated LAMP server environment that belongs to us. I'm thinking of moving over to Amazon Web Services and want to learn about the best setup for my client's needs. Should I be putting only one website on a virtual machine, or can I configure Apache to host several websites on one server? Note that these websites aren't high-traffic apps. Are there any third party solutions I should consider, like Virtualmin?

massive bandwidth needed? hi guys, i have a downloads store i am currently setting up which will need to hog huge ammounts of bandwidth (around 5000gb a month / 5tb). i am looking for a decent priced hosting service that can genuinly offer me a service capable of taking this ammount. I have looked at 'unlimited bandwidth' companys, but we all know no one can realistically offer this service, and on ebay i have been offered a 'dedicated server' which says that this is no problem - for just £23 a month which sounds too good to be true. do any of you guys know of any decent host that can realistically deal with my needs? thank you so much people, karl

is IP to IP (direct IP connection) for video chat possible?? I'm currently using Yahoo Messenger for chatting with webcam and notice that more often than not, the video streaming lags. While at the same time, I have this device from D-Link (DVC-1000 which is a stand alone webcam for video conferencing that turns your TV into a video conferencing device. Of course the other party should also have this device) and upon observation and comparison, I can't help but notice that when I use DVC-1000, there's no lag at all while YM based and/or MSN Messenger based video chats often has lags in video streaming. Could it be that D-Link's host server for this service is better and more dedicated for video conferencing than MSN and Yahoo?? Lastly, any of you guys have a much better host for FREE video conferencing that is better than MSN & Yahoo? And of course, nothing will beat I guess direct IP to IP video chatting as there will be no host to manage the process, is this direct IP to IP video chatting possible? If so, how do I set it up?

Encrypting outbound data to hide from comcast? Im hosting a 16 slot gameserver which on non-business level comcast accounts is against the terms and services and can shut down your account. Is their a way I can encrypt out bound traffic from my machine to hide the data my dedicated server is creating?

Should I get a Sky Package or Virgin Package? I'm considering changing provider, Talk Talk has been fine but I want TV package and a lot faster Internet.I don't want to be caught between 2 company's Id rather have the 1 bill. I wanted to original get SKY HD + and 4 entertainment mixes - Variety Music Knowledge Kids I also wanted to get Sky sports 3 for the wrestling :P and I'm sure another few shows would be good like snowboarding/Skateboarding but its something I could do without. I haven't ever had Sky or any TV service so I don't know what else it really has to offer, but WWE would be funky. I'd like shows that are on the entertainment mixes, stuff like the new South park episodes - when they air same with The Simpson's, I don't want to be to bombarded with repeats, a few times but not all the time. I'd like a channel similar to Kerrang and other music channels. I would like really fast Internet I love gaming online and I can have multiple devices running at once e.g PS3/360/PC/Wii playing games online even as a server host - not dedicated just when I go on create a server where I play on. Now I really don't know much about how Internet works in terms of speed affecting - I mean I know up to 20mb Is cool but how much would I get peak and non peak? Is there a point, is there a limit to how much certain areas get and how do I find this out. I know Sky don't have as fast speeds as Virgin. I'd like a new router that can support multiple devices whether its wired or wireless. Phone I would like total free calls to landlines in the UK, cheap mobile and other calls as well as cheap or free calls to Portugal ( as talk talk offers) I'd also like my line rental done through the company and that it to be cheap enough. Is HD Sky or Virgin any good - Blu Ray looks funky but how does sky and virgin fair up? Id like a box with all the bells and whistles. Liability reselling internet services? Hi all, my question is fairly simple and needs a legal guru. I'm planning to start reselling internet services, like hosting and private connections. I'll be renting a dedicated server for which I need to agree to the company's Terms and Conditions and Acceptable Use Policy. In the event one of my customers uses my service for an illegal purpose, can I be safe making my own customers sign the same type of agreement I needed to sign to be able to rent the server or am going to be personally liable for the offense? How can I be legally protected from what my users might do with my service? I could block certain activity but this goes against the main idea behind the service and even blocking everything doesn't mean somebody couldn't come with a way to bypass that. The server is going to be rented from the UK, don't know if different countries may have different laws on this. Thanks, Ka.

Should I fire them and get a new host? I work as a web design artist in my spare time. I have a website that host's my art gallery and payment section. The company that hosts my website, Iweb technologies, (Somewhere in Canada), has been quite shaky in their web hosting. I contacted them on Wednesday night via email, because I have been unable to log into my server's control panel. It seems that I have been locked out of my own dedicated server. I don't know why. My account manager said that they would get back to me, but did not that day. So I waited until Friday morning and sent her a friendly email, inquiring as to the status of my server. Still no reply as of now. I am beginning to hear some bad things about their company, and have hoped it is not true. However, I can not help but wonder, based on what I am experiencing myself. Should I ditch them and get a new host? I don't know what to do, I just know that I am irritated by their service as of now. Any suggestions?

How is web hosting so cheap? I'm looking into having my own dedicated website and I have been pleasantly surprised to find that I can purchase two years hosting at around 3 gigabytes space for the equivalent of around £1.30 per month, including a free .com domain registration. I was wondering how companies can offer these services so cheaply. They claim that they don't post any adverts and there are no extra charges involved, so how can they afford to charge such cheap rates, so where's the catch? For two years I am looking at a little over £25 for two year's hosting and even if I doubled the required space and bandwidth, the cost only increases by about 60%. I know that server units of several terabytes retail at only a few hundred pounds now but they still have substantial overheads to account for.

Good Online Corporate Fax Solution? I'm looking for an electronic fax solution for work. The criteria I have to work within are: - It has to support the sending and receiving of colour fax's. - We also don't want something like Zetafax. which requires a dedicated phone line and modem to be setup. - The service must be hosted externally - i.e as mentioned, we don't have to host any kind of line, modem and preferably no server installation. - It needs to have the option to 'print-to-fax' i.e. user clicks print, is prompted for the phone number, enters it and away it goes. - Users also need to be able to 'email-to-fax' i.e. they attach a document to an email, and then then somehow enter the fax number and click print. It's not a long list, but it's a tricky one. I so far can't find any companies operating within the UK that offer all of these services. Thanks Colour is indeed the main problem. I can get everything else, but so far am having no luck with the colour functionality. Unfortunately it is an essential requirement for our business.

Anyone know of a cheap Disk space provider to work with current VPS? I currently have a VPS that gives me VERY little disk space (like 10 GB) and it costs $0.01/MB/mo for additional space. So I was wondering if anyone knows of a cheap place to host files. I don’t need a whole hosting package; I just want a simple apache server with ftp access so I can host files on that server, then direct people to them from my VPS. That’s it. I’ve been looking at places like hostmonster and hostgator, but they have so many extra features that I will never use, and it seems like a waits of money to pay for a service I will never use. Also, something that comes with a dedicated IP would be nice; or it at least has the option to buy an IP. Does anyone know? I’ve been searching everywhere, but I can’t find exactly what I am looking for.

How much should I expect to pay for colocation services for my website hosting? Currently for my existing dedicated server I pay $110 a month to the company that I'm renting it from and they provide 250 gigs of bandwidth per month. I want to see if it's possible to get my monthly costs to be cheaper than that. I need to rent space in a data center for a 1U server but I'm not sure how much I should be expecting to pay. Can anyone provide some suggestions on getting the best price on a hosting plan in a data center?

Help: People are unable to connect to my TF2 server (router issues)? To start off with, I have a ZyXEL ZyAIR G-2000 router and I have the following ZyNOS firmware version: V3.60(HI.1) Whenever I am connected to the internet via my router and set up a dedicated server on my PC for Team Fortress II (using the Team Fortress II Dedicated Server program that is provided by Steam), my server does not show up on the Internet Servers list, and people are also not able to connect to my server by either manually adding my server’s IP to their favorites list or by joining through Steam; whenever my friend would try to connect, he would get a “Server does not respond” message. Note that I am able to join other servers just fine when I am connected to the internet via my router; it is only that nobody can join my server. On the other hand, when my PC is directly connected to my modem and my router is not involved at all, there are no problems: my server shows up on the Internet Servers list, and my friend (the same one who cannot connect when my router is involved) is able to connect to my server. I can’t see any reason why my server shouldn’t show up on the Internet Servers list and why people can’t to my server when my router is involved, as the firewalls on both my PC and my router are off, services blocking on my router is disabled, and all ports (both for Steam Client and Steam Server) that are needed for this game (which I obtained from portforward.com and then cross-referenced with the information on Steam’s website, so I know that I am not missing any ports) are forwarded to my machine on our LAN; I setup a local static IP address on this machine so that my local IP address is always the same for port-forwarding purposes. Additionally, the default server is set to 0.0.0.0 on my router’s SUA/NAT page, and all of the local IP addresses on our LAN are mapped to one single global IP address (the global IP address is not static) from our internet provider (many-to-one address mapping scheme). What makes this issue even more interesting is that I am able to host a dedicated server for at least one game (it’s possible that I may be able to host servers for other games as well, but I haven’t ever tried to host a server for any of the other games that I play as I have no need to do so) on my PC when I am connected to the internet via my router: I have been hosting a dedicated server on my PC for the game Star Wars: Battlefront II for over three years with no issues of users not being able to connect to my server. I have also never needed to forward any ports for this game. I don’t know if this may have any relation to this particular problem, but I also see these access blocked notices in my router’s logs quite frequently: Packet without a NAT table entry blocked: ICMP(type:3, code:3) Packet without a NAT table entry blocked: ICMP(type:3, code:11) Any help to resolve this issue would be greatly appreciated.
