Can you host a file that is downloaded from a wap site off a http web server? I am slightly confused about how WAP sites work. They use urls in the same way as normal sites e.g. something.mob would be resolved by DNS to point to the server rendering the wap site. The wap site is then just in a particular mark up right? Which means the wap site could provide a link to download a file from anywhere else on the internet? Thanks!
how do i get apache http web server to work from a non local host? i have apache 2.2.3 running on my pc running windows xp. i have tested my website by going to http://localhost/ and it work. i have configured my router to forward port 80 to my ip address. then i have tried http://"myipaddress"/ and my website isn't coming up. is there something that i'm missing or am i just plain stupid
Please Recommend HTTP Web Server to Install? Im currently using Windows 2003 Server ONLY because I wanted a web server (IIS6) which could serve up ASP.NET v1.1 pages, allowed me to debug my apps through MS Visual Studio .NET 2003, and gave me the ability to host multiple websites (each provided host name points to a different file folder as root) and provide multiple identities for the website. Besides a decent web server Win2K3 has been a pain. Can some one please recommend a commerical or free web server which can do my wants but is capable of running on Windows XP? I'd use Apache for Windows but DAMN, that thing can be too too brutual to install and the last i saw it didnt even work properly with ASP.NET. Thanks.
http server and web server? Is http server and web server one and same thing or different ? If they are different from each other, whats the difference ? thanks when it says httpd, is it different from http server ?
'Web Server (HTTP)' How to change it or get rid of it.? In my Windows XP Firewall advanced exceptions I have something called' Web Server (HTTP)' that uses both internal and external port 80. As long as it's using those ports my firewall won't let me make any other exceptions using port 80 which is the port that several of my online games need in order to run. 'Web Server (HTTP)' cannot be deleted or changed inside the firewall and I've used the search program to try and find it to see if anything could be done but evidently it doesn't exist. In short I'm need help figuring out a way to bypass the problem, or change the ports it uses. If an alternative can be found that's great but I'd really appreciate it if something could be done soon.
Possible to turn NAS device into small http web server? I've seen NAS devices that run samba, ftp and can be accessed via the web. But, is it possible to turn one of these things into a small web server? I've got an old Linux PC that I've turned into a web server but I don't leave it on all of the time due to power concerns. I've seen some NAS items with auto-power off and on when they're being accessed, which would be great. Basically I'm looking for a less power intense way of running a web server without buying a fairly expensive web server machine. There will only be a few people, maybe 10 max, that ever use it.
Apache web http server: How do you make URL recognition/access to be case sensitive? I downloaded a program a few days ago and I loved it enough to recommend to a friend. I referred him to the url, a direct link to the download file. He typed it into the browser by hand, and it didnt work. We couldnt figure it out. The link worked for me. Ultimately we learned that the link worked for him, too... just not the typed url. As it turns out, the urls on that site are all case sensitive. I, as an amateur web designer and server of my own pages on Apache, want to know how to achieve that.

How can i setup my server to act as a web server for all the systems in the network? what should i do to make my server a universal web server for all the computers in my domain, i have already setup windows 2003 server on my server machine and have installed iis 6.0 on it, i have allowed anonymous access and given full permissions to everyone on network. but when i try opening that site in my Visual studio 2005 using \\server\websites\nameofwebsite, (websites is a virutal directory) the site opens correctly n i can edit pages, but when i run it, i get the following error The file "\\Server\Websites\Waiz\App_Data\ASPNETDB.MDF" is on a network path that is not supported for database files. Can someone please recommend an http server that shows downloads and allows for kicking users etc? Hello, I am running Windows XP SP2 and need to find a good web-server for my personal computer. I have used omnisecure and abyss in the past and like both, but both are lacking one feature I want. I want to be able to pull up a list of all current transfers, see what people are downloading, how fast the transfers are going, perhaps time remaining, etc, and ideally be able to terminate connections. Can anyone suggest a good software for me? Freeware would be great of course but not required. Thanks much!
The error is: “There was a problem communicating with the web proxy server (HTTP).”? Safari won't connect to the internet. And old question answer seems like it could work but I can't find anything like "System Preferences -> Network -> Advanced -" - I need better instructions, I have Windows Vista and was wondering if someone could please give me some directions. - http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090822103712AAMYEdq Edit: Grr. I don't know why it's in YIM. I clicked computers. -_- Edit: Thank You!
What can I use to play mp3's off my web server? I have a http web server running, and it has nothing but many mp3 files stored on it. Is there a web application, etc. That has an index.html file, that when I go to the address of the server, I can use an in-browser media player to play the music? This would be similar to Winamp Remote, however I cannot install any applications to the server, and so everything must be web-based. I have a Palm Pre cell phone, and I have Lightppd web server running on it. My phone has a large amount of music on it, and when I go places or DJ events, I want to just use any computer, type in my DDNS address(that's linked to my phone) and play music through the web browser. That way i can bring my music, and not have to worry about installing any programs and/or drivers on the computer.
why should there be so many server like web, mail, ftp? i think it's efficient to use web server using http protocol, but there are mail or web-mail server or ftp server. but I think it's ok to use just http as a well-known protocol than using other. is it impossible to function role of them ,only using http? if impossible, why impossible? and if possible, why do we use a lot of protocol? is there any reason?
What do you recommend for a free and large web server? Hi, I already have a website but unfortunately it limits me to only 4 MB disk space. I have several audio files (of my radio shows that take up hundreds of all together MB) and I want to upload them to the site but can't because of the space. So I figure I could just upload these files on a larger server and then put a http link on my other website that would direct them to the file so they can download it. What web server do you recommend so I can do this? If you don't think there are any large, free servers out there, what do you think I should do? Should I just compress my files? Would that work in the first place? What free software would you recommend if I should do that? Much thanks in advance.
Why isn't my web server working? I'm running apache http server on my computer, it's running on port 80 which I have opened on my router. I used the web tool http://www.dyndns.com/support/tools/openport.html and it said that the port is open and operational. I still can't open up my server from a computer outside of my local network. By local network I mean any computer directly connected to my router. I can only access it from a local computer by typing the internal ip into a browser. And I can't access it at all from any computer outside of my network. What am I missing? I'm using a linksys wrt54g router and my isp is comcast cable internet. Also I can ping my external ip from anywhere.

The error keeps returning: Service Unavailable -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- HTTP Error 503. The service is unavailable. I'm running desktop Linux on my home computer, and I would like to know of a program I could use to find out the operating system of a remote web server. Is this possible? But I can't access it using my public IP address, of course I can access it through internal private address. I would like to build an Integrated Web Server that supports uploading and downloading files, but how? There is a great program called "Easy File Sharing Web Server" (http://www.file-sharing.com) that does exactly what I want to do. However, it costs money that I do not want to put down at this point. I did some research and found I can create an Integrated Web Server with Apache (http://www.appservnetwork.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=46). I've configured all my ports and got a basic webpage to come up. Now I need to build a webpage that allows: - Users to log in - Users to upload and download files I know very basic HTML, so I would need to find a free HTML editor that could assist me with this. Particularly building an interface to upload and download files. (I don't even know where to start with this.) Does anyone have any recommendations? Does anyone know if there is a Live CD (linux or otherwise) that can provide this sort of setup? Any help would be appreciated. I know what I'm asking for is complex.
Does anyone around here feel like teaching me how to set up a web/email server for the fun of it? If you are the sort who knows how to configure a Linksys router, a couple PCs (one XP laptop and one Vista box) on a LAN, hooked to that router, and then how to set up one of those PCs (the Vista box) as a Win Vista/IIS 6.0 (that comes with Win Vista) server -- so that the Vista PC can serve up a web site (starting with an INDEX.HTM file on down), act as its own DNS server, act as a FTP server (to support FTP into the server for remote file add/update/delete work), and maybe act as a couple POP3/SMTP email servers (so the Vista machine can host the web site with support @ website.com email traffic), etc. -- then I really would like to chat with you live and in person... maybe even toss some $$ your way for a couple hrs of admin work. IF you happen to live anywhere near Bellingham WA (NW corner of the USA) that would be frosting on the cake. I thought I could make this work, but after 2+ days of screwing with it all I managed to get was a couple tests to work, and a couple PCs that could not browse the web, in trade for a HTTP server that does diddly squat. So far nobody can tell me what the h*#% I am doing wrong. HELP. Please. :) Shhhhh. Comcast does not block the needed ports, gives you one static IP (w/o advertising the fact) to work with, and, apparently, will let you go for it w/o paying extra (they already charge too much anyway) for a business account. Could be something to do with the state of WA regs though. Who knows? Anyway, still need a warm body with some NetAdmin knowledge...
While accessing apache http ran server internet explorer shuts down. Why? I was wanting to use apache to run a small web server from home, but when i try to access it remotely internet explorer shuts down. both actually. I can see the web site remotely from work, but when after i logon to the server using the web interface it shuts down internet IE. I have reinstalled apache several times with no sucess in overcoming this problem.
Having a bit of trouble accessing my newly set up apache web server...? OK now i have been following the instructings from the following link about how to set up a server. http://lifehacker.com/software/feature/how-to-set-up-a-personal-home-web-server-124212.php Everything has gone smooth up until i got to the bottom of the tutorial. It says that if your server if behind a wireless router (and it is) then you gotta forward port 80. Now im pretty sure i did that right. But now i dont know what i have to type into the address bar to access my server. I tried the http://localhost/ address earlier in the setup and that worked fine and i could see my files. But now, what address do i give to someone to access the server from another computer? Is it just my ip address: http://96.238.XX.XXX Or is it something like: http://96.238.XX.XXX:80 Im pretty confused about this part cause this ip doesnt point to the actual computer, just my home network. The computer is something like 192.168.*.* Is the port forwarding supposed to take care of directing the incomming requests to the correct computer? Any help is greatly appreciated, but remember that i dont really know what the hell im doin so please no super complicated answers, thanks.

What is the EASIEST way to setup a Linux Web Server? I have a need to host some web sites, and have been trying to do so with an evaluation copy of Server 2k3. And while I have been able to get more than a few simple sites up, I am having trouble doing anything advanced, like setting up a simple in and out bound mail server, or getting PHP scripts to run. One option I am considering is seeing if there is a SIMPLE (meaning totally newby friendly) Linux build that might work. Does anyone have a recommendation on a Linux build that would include a web server, mail server and php compiler (or whatever the appropriate term is) that someone who has NEVER used linux could install, configure through some sort of reasonable "wizard," plug source files into and then go from there? Thanks in advance!

What is the best way to host a million images on a web server? I have a web site where members can sign up and upload images. Thinking large scale, say I have 100,000 members and each one uploads 100 images (averaging 1mb per image). That would require roughly 10,000 gigabytes of storage. How do I find out if I have a Linux Web Server or not? Checking the Properties of My Computer shows: System: Microsoft Windows XP, Home Edition, Version 2002, Service Pack 2. I found out that I can have a Windows XP Operating System as well as a Linux Operating System but I don't know if this also determines my web server or not and how to determine whether I have a Linux Web Server or not. First: The reason why I need to find out this answer is that I was told in answer to another Yahoo question about how to install a redirect: "If you have a Linux Web server, then do this..." Secondly: Microsoft Help says "NOTE: Windows XP and Linux can coexist on the same computer. For additional information, refer to your Linux documentation." Well, I know I have windows. I don't know if I don't have Linux. One problem is that I don't know where to find my Linux documentation--isn't there some place on my computer where I should be able to look this data up?
How to give a password for an Apache Web Server Website? I want to know how to set a password for a website that is on Apache web server so that only the people that know the password can access my site and anything else on it. I also want to know how to make the home page of Apache look better.

How do I set up my own web server using Ubuntu Linux? I'm sick of having to spend my hard earned cash on renting 60 gb of a hard drive on someone else's computer! I've got a server ready to have Ubuntu installed, but I don't know where to begin with setting it up as a web server What do I do? Is there any security software that I need? (Though I suppose that's a silly question because Linux is so secure anyway) I know that many ISP's don't like you uploading tonnes of data, but I never get all that much traffic anyway. If I do start getting lots of traffic, I'll change ISP!
How to make a home web server? Hello I asked this question before but no one gave me useful info. I want to make a home web server and I would like to know how to do it. I'm not asking what programs I need to use but for a web page that tells me how to set up a home web server, or a video.
How do I secure my web server using a certificate on a USB key? I have a web server running IIS 6 (sorry, UNIX guys!). I'd like to secure the access of my site to only some users. In my wildest dreams, I'd like my users to have a USB key with a key/certificate on it, then they could plug it in any PC and, if the certificate is not blacklisted or expired, the users could access my site. Otherwise, it would be blocked. I'd like the user interaction to be minimal, from the time they plug in the USB key. So, I'd like to avoid any configuration on the part of the users. Ideally, the solution should work on both Internet Explorer 6 and Firefox. Any ideas how I could make this happen? Thank you in advance for the detailed steps!

Link bars in Frontpage showing in offline browser preview but not on live site after uploading to web server? I do have Frontpage extensions enabled on the server. The site has page banners, link bars and a discussion forum and only the discussion forum works on the live site. So it seems that the Frontpage extensions do work, but not for the link bar and the page banner. When I open the live site (remotely) in Frontpage, it says in the location where the link bar should be something like: "add page to navigation structure to show linkbar" whereas it works perfectly well offline (locally) and I copied the entire file structure over to the web server. Do I have to re-create the navigation structure remotely? Is that normal? My ISP is 1and1 and I have Linux hosting.
