web hosting in Japan? (dedicated or resale plans)? I am looking for a web host service in Japan. I need more than a small account, so if someone know resale accounts, big business account or maybe dedicated servers, please share. Does anyone have experience? Remarks: No, I dont want 1&1 or GoDaddy or whatever. I want service that has FAST connection to Japan, i.e. either Japanese service or something close. American, European etc. services are slow from Japan.
Question regarding hosting your own web server? Hi I just finished 2 websites right now, and I was thinking of hosting my own web and database servers. I have an extra computer at home, which will serve as the dedicated server, and will run windows server 2003. I have the business plan with my isp, so i am allowed to host servers, but my upload speed is only 800kbps With that connection speed, suppose 10 users are downloading a 800kb page and executing 3 select mysql queries all at the same time, how long will it take for the page to be rendered? Is there a mathematical formula that shows this? What is the maximum number of users that you guys think could be browsing my website at the same time? Is there any books you guys could recommend me viewing before launching the server? Thanks! i.e I have 2gb ram, and 2.4ghz processor

Who Would Be A Reliable Dedicated Web Host For A Relatively Large MP3 Site? Hi there, I am searching for a reliable dedicated hosting company that will be able to meet the needs of my future music site. On my site, users will be able to upload/ download mp3's as well as upload photos. I am not entirely sure what I am going to need in terms of plans, or how many page views(est: >300,000)/ mp3 downloads I will be getting a month, but know that I want to be on the safe side, and insure that there will not be a server overload, allowing at least several hundred people to access the site at the same time, without it slowing down. Users will be able to preview music as well , and I want to make sure that this function works smoothly without having connection issues due to too much activity at any given time. I am not entirely sure how many users will be uploading music, however, I am estimating that I will have over 50 GB of music on the site. I need a cost-effective solution, but do not want to cut corners with a plan that cannot support the site. Thank you! Sorry for not mentioning--these mp3's will be copyrighted by the users who uploaded. There will be absolutely no piracy on the site. Also meant to add, I have no interest in using shared hosting--These shared hosting companies sometimes put thousands of sites on the same server, and cannot deliver on the amount of transfer/storage that they offer. The sites have a "fair use" clause, and will instantly shut one's site down, if it's clogging up the server. Just to clarify, I am NOT expecting at least 300,000 downloads a month, but 300,000 page views. This is a very rough estimate, but would be about 10,000 page views a day.
Hosting a worldwide .com web in Canada. Is it the same as in the US? I found an affordable hosting service in Canada -dedicated server ; I am planning to host my web site with them. My web site is for all countries - English speaking countries. My concern, now, is will this affect my web site SEO and make it like Canadian web site. Thanks
Is there any type of "regular maintanence" that needs to be done with Linux web servers? Pretty straightforward. I'm a designer looking to upgrade to a dedicated server hosting plan, but as the host does not manage the server themselves, I am wondering if I'll need outside help. I can work my way around SSH and install apps and such, but don't know much about maintaining a server, if this is needed.
How much to budget for web hosting? I'm starting a web site that will include research & commentary on a particular industry, as well as a forum and links to news items of interest. Right now I have a $6.95 hosting plan that includes 350GB storage and 3500 GB/month bandwidth. I have no idea how much traffic this site will get and whether my current plan will be adequate. If I have Google ads on the site, will I always be able to cover my hosting expenses? Are there web hosts that allow you to scale up to a higher plan or a dedicated server, rather than charging for excess traffic? Out of curiosity, how much do you think ultra-popular sites like drudgereport.com or perezhilton.com spend on hosting?
Advice and suggestions on web hosting companies? I've been looking for a webhost to host 3 different sties I have under 1 plan. I don't need a dedicated server or anything big and fancy (yet). I use Yahoo now for one of my sites but they don't support hosting multiple domains on one plan. That is a must for me. So far I'm considering BlueHost, DreamHost, and IPowerWeb. Any thoughts on them? Are there any other hosts I should consider? Are there any good web hosting catalogs with user reviews? I looked for user reviews web hosting providers and I didn't have much luck. @#Red and others: I will not click affiliate links or any links which appear to have referal code.

I made a web site project that is an alarming web site. Looking for a asp.net 2.0 web hosting, but which? - The web site is going to have members and members can add some notes to be remembered as if is selected weekly, daily, etc (Like Google Calender !) - So it is supposed to the web site will be very active every hour of day. Searching the notes and if some notes returned to be sent, the web site will send it to each concerning client. -So should I use shared or dedicated server. -Do you advice me some hosting companies which have good hosting plans. Thanks in advance BK

Web Host Question? 1) Whats the different between Hosting Plan and Server Plan, "Ex. Godaddy.com" Hosting Plan, Vitual Server, and Dedicated Server? 2) Why would someone pay 79.99 when you can pay 14.99 for something similar and cheaper? Ex. a - Godaddy Premium Plan (Regular) $14.99/mo for 200GB Space & 2000GB bandwidth. b - Godaddy Preconfigured Deluxe (Dedicated) $79.99/mo 2x120 GB Space & 500GB bandwidth 3) The highest bandwidth offered from a web host I saw goes up to 3600GB. I know that Youtube, Megaupload, and Rapidshare use more bandwidth then that, but where and how do they get it? If I were to host videos like youtube where would i get the bandwidth from. Do I put servers or host together? If so how would I do that?
More RAM or a better CPU? Hi there. I just purchased a clearance server from a dedicated web host. The primary purpose of the server is for web hosting only. I was wondering if more RAM or a better CPU would be best to improve the server's performance. I am not planning on upgrading, but in case I want to, I wanted to know what option woud be best. [I have also been told Celeron processors have a bug where they can spike to 100% load in no time; true/false?] Specs: Celeron 3.0 GHz Processor, 1024MB RAM Thanks, Jared
How to setup a web server in a Data center? I’ve been doing web dev for a few years now with my sites being hosted on a shared server.I'm getting a dedicated machine, but a voice in my head is saying "do it yourself." I’ll have my own server & a possibility of having resellers. My educational background is in Sys Admin,so I have a understanding of what's needed to setup, secure & maintain systems, but I still need some info. I've come up with a very basic plan of what I think is required: 1. Get a server + setup software (Debian / Redhat + Antivirus? + Network Security? + PHP / MYSQL etc + Cpanel / WHM) 2. Find a data center 3. Find a Teleco to connect the server to the net 4. Maintain system (security+performance) with patches & software updates Although I need to do more research for step 1 & 4,my main concern is 2 & 3.What do I ask the DC & Telco?Do I setup the server offsite, then send it to the DC for them to connect,or do I personally go in & do it myself? When calling the Telco, what info should I have on hand?
Should I use RAID 1 or RAID 5 for my Virtual Machine host server (Microsoft Hyper-V)? I am building a server that will be used as a virtual machine hosting server, using Microsoft Hyper-V as the virtual server hosting OS. The hardware I am using will be a motherboard with capacity for 6 SATA 10,000 RPM disks. I can set them up using RAID 1 or RAID 5. I cannot use a mix of different RAID options for the disks. I must choose either RAID 1 or RAID 5 for all the disks. Which option would be best for performance? I plan to create 10 virtual machines on the system. I know I would have more total disk capacity using RAID 5 instead of RAID 1 (mirroring), but am wondering if there is a benefit to using RAID 1 for the entire system, in regards to general performance. The virtual machines will be a mix of workstations, database servers, web servers, and other systems. The host OS (MS Hyper-V) uses a very small amount of disk space. The a majority of space will be dedicated the various virtual servers running. There is no need to send me links to websites describing RAID (I know about the various general benefits of the different types of RAID). I am interested in hearing from someone who has implemented a RAID configuration when setting up a virtual hosting server and have some good advice regarding which option offers best performance.

Setting up a proxy server for dummy. :)? Hey guys, I want to set to set up a proxy site(like www.safelizard.com / www.hidemyass.com) but I'm kinda newbie in web hosting and stuff... So here are my questions after I create my website... What host should I choose?(I've heard Bluehost and Godaddy are good) How much would registering a domain name cost me and after registering a domain name do I have to pay a monthly fee to retain it or is it a one time fee? In case it's monthly fee what happens if I just decide to abandon the domain and don't pay the cost.. Would the domain be up for grabs again?? How much would a hosting the site cost me per-month(Bluehost charges about $4/month but I'm guessing the site would act sluggish for that low cost).. Do I need a dedicated server or if not what plan would suit my needs. Is there any other way to monetize the site apart from adsense?? thanks in advance. But there are a lot of proxies running all over the web... Someone, somewhere must be willing to host these sites..
Best web host to host hundreds of sites? 10 Points!? I'm looking to build hundreds of websites this summer (anywhere from 100-200), and will be looking for a host that will do it---I will also need a host that will support unlimited domains - would reseller hosting work for this? something tells me that shared hosting will not work for this...but would reseller, VPS, or a dedicated server be able to do this? These sites won't be receiving tons and tons of traffic, but each site will be hopefully be bringing in 10-100 visitors per day. Would shared hosting work for this, or would you recommend I go ahead and spend the money with a VPS or Shared host? If so, what are your recommendations and best plan of action to go about setting this all up?
Need an extremely simple web server setup? I'm planning on hosting a simple static, html website. I have everything setup I'm just deciding on what software to use. I have a dedicated machine 40 GB Hdd. I just need http support and an easy way to change files (windows share would be cool) from a computer on the same LAN. I've used HFS before in windows I would love to have something that simple as a dedicated OS. Just throw in a few files and go. The PC i'd like to use has no video card. any headless friendly Web hosting live CD's out there?
How can I register domain names for my clients? I'm from India (Chennai) I've planned to start a Web hosting company here. I got the server configuration and i'm going to use linux/windows. The problem is how can I register Domain Name for my Clients. If I purchase a dedicated server they provide all details but i have to pay in monthly basis but i'm not interested in dedicated servers and resellers. So I want my own server in my office. What should I do now? What is cpanel/plesk how it will help me? Where can I get cpanel/plesk?
