I'd like to set up a system so that *.dev is redirected to my testing server at 192.168.0.4 I know I can do this for each individual site using the hosts file found in C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc\ Unfortunately the Windows hosts file doesn't work with wildcards! I don't have a dedicated local DNS server, but I'd like a system that redirects *.dev to my server without the need to open and edit the Windows hosts file every time. Event 4202 in Event Viewer on Windows server? In the server's event viewer (which we can only get to via Remote Desktop - the server is hosted somewhere on the other side of the country), I keep seeing events 4202 and then 4201 a few seconds later (source tcpip). This happens pretty much every day and sometimes up to 5 or 6 times per day. The site is only down for 5-30 seconds each time, so it is difficult to catch it while happening (plus, I can't since I need it to be connected via Remote Desktop). Everything I have read says this could be either a hardware or a driver issue. Unfortunately, GoDaddy has been no help since it is a dedicated server. I have been working with their advanced support team and they are saying the hardware is fine (because they tested it in a 10 minute window in which this didn't happen). They will not monitor it over the course of a few days. How do I know if it is the network card failing vs bad equipment? How can I prove it is the equipment so I can go back to GoDaddy with a solid argument? When I look at Microsoft Windows Server Standard 2003 R2 with SP2 the price varies greatly with the CALs. Should I get a different version or get a different operating system? Let's say I lease a dedicated server from some hosting company.? I use a software app like Virtuozzo or VMWare to create 4 Virtual Machines inside the server. I now have 4 virtual machines in the server, each with its own memory, OS, Windows. Would I be able to log into one of the VMs using remote software, and then - from that machine, browse the internet, go to other websites, download software, and basically do anything that I could do on a regular PC? Part of my trouble in understanding my own question, is that the leased dedicated server would probably not have a monitor attached to it, and I am used to using remote software that lets you see what is happening on the desktop of the computer being accessed. I am trying to figure out what I would see from my computer if I was connecting to one that did not have a monitor. Would I still be able to use my local mouse and keyboard in the environment of the remote server, and would I be able to do what ever I want to accomplish on the VM, despite it's status as a webhost server?

Windows 2003 SMTP server help!? Well I am having a issue with virtual SMTP servers. I am trying to make it so each domain on my windows 2003 box (Virtual dedicated) has its own IP address for sending mail. I setup a virtual SMTP server for each IP and domain but when I send mail through that IP/Domain it will use the servers default IP address to relay the mail out. Do you have any idea how to fix this so each virtual SMTP is sending with its own IP address? Or do you know of a SMTP server I can istall that will let me configure it this way? I have a bunch of domains hosted on a windows box and some clients reqire a dedicatged IP with rDNS for sending emails.

Internet Server Help (Urgent!)? OK Here i go. I'm running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise, I am trying to run a Ventrilo Server and a Half-Life Dedicated Server on it. I run them both. Ventrilo says everything is working, The IPs are correct on ventrilo, as displayed, But no one on the internet can seem to connect (not even anyone on LAN, Only the server PC can connect!). This is the same for the Half-Life Dedicated Server. It says "Connection Success", But it still doesn't show up on LAN or Internet. I have no firewall, or antivirus. I tried it on a differant operating system (XP Pro) and it still didn't work. I swapped network cards, and that didn't work, All needed ports are open, On my normal PC (The one i'm on now) i play games on, the servers work fine, i just wanted another PC for making 24/7 servers on. Currently our cluster nodes are active\active and are being backed over the network up via the virtual IP. I would like to add another NIC and then bind that nic to our backup network VLAN. Windows Web Hosting Control Panel? I am looking for a reliable web hosing contropl panel for a Windows Server 2003 Enterprise edition dedicated. I would prefer to use apache, php and mysql as the hosting. (WAMP) and good free solutions? or, possibly low cost? any info would be greatly appreciated.

developing a web page and application server..? I need the same application on a Web server to handle both handling web page get or post requests ( securely) as well as talk to a remote application using a listening TCP or UDP socket. For example, a web page action may prompt fetch of data from the socket connection. Another web page action may trigger sending a packet on the socket connection. The program will need to authenticate the remote application connecting on the socket and handle updates to a database based on that and web page activity as well. What is the best way to go about this? I am limited to Windows but will have a dedicated server for this activity. This will be development not demo so reliability and redundancy not too important now. Thanks. I see you can do both, but can I just have a constantly running looping application in PHP handling both rather than through .php files initiating the application only on browsing activity? Will I have issued having Windows XP, Vista and 2003 Server on the same hard drive? I had Windows XP Professional and I installed Vista on the same hard drive on a different partition. I noticed the boot up option to choose which operating system to load is different. I now need to install Server 2003 to practice. I need to know if I will have issues. Don't want to buy a second hard drive because I only want to dedicate 10 gb of space to 2003

Do traditional web hosts have a service similar to virtual dedicated servers but with the Windows XP? instead of IIS or Apache?

I need a template solution for ecommerce website that runs on a windows 2003 server, suggestions? I usually develop ecommerce websites using Miva, osCommerce but all those ecommerce programs use apache servers with php. My new boss has a windows 2003 dedicated server and has asked me to find an easy templated type ecommerce solution for a website. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Network of Dedicated Servers? I am looking for a number of servers (say 40 dedicated machines) each with their own IP, not in the same IP address range, spread around the world. It can be Linux of windows PCs. Does anyone know of a good solution or service for this? I have looked into EC2 from Amazon but they do not have the support I need. Ideas? Note: I am not looking for caching services or exclusively web hosting. The machines should have different external IPs, possibly different locations and also be able to run desktop windows applications. The servers will be working independently. They will also be running a .NET desktop application and another 3rd party windows application and need a connection to the internet. Linux or Mono wont work. Linux would work if the version support vmware.

I am trying to setup my web server. I am using IIS for Windows Sever 2003.? So I have my website setup on my server as of now, and I have checked my public IP address and entered that into the website properties in IIS. My network consists of a cable router from the ISP connected to a Linksys private router. The Linksys router is then hooked up to the server. The files for the website are on the server already, and they are pointed to the right file. When I try to view the website in a browser, I get prompted to enter the login information to the Linksys router. When I do this, I then get an error page saying that my website is not available or something of the sort. I am soon getting a dedicated T1 with a router specifically for this. How come the website will not come up? Even if it did come up, how would I make sure the website users would not have to enter the login information? Would I have to structure the physical network differently? I am assuming I want the server placed in between the pop router and the the private network router correct?

We have 16 workstations tapping into the server for both Database files and user documents and folders. There are two HD’s, 160gig mirrored, and 2 gigs of RAM (We run Windows Server 2003). I am thinking of reformatting the drives to partition them, dedicating two partitions for the databases (one each), another partition for the servers system files, and the final for the network users files (several gigs alone). Any ideas on if this is the right answer? Am I going in the right direction with my ideas for better speed and efficiency?

Hello everybody, If you know, could you tell me which are the most suitable characteristics, when buying windows hosting, for a bookstore shop (selling books, cds, dvds, games, etc), that will use ASP and MS SQL? I'm wondering about disk space, bandwidth, shared hosting, VPS, dedicated server, etc, among other things. I've seen many solutions but would not wish to follow one which is too expensive for the shop needs. What will happen if we never turn off the computer? What do I need to run DVDs over a network? I am considering a dedicated back-up server to protect data for my small business, but I would like to have several DVDs in the server and want to be able to retrieve information off those DVDs. It would also be convenient to my business to have some programs on one central machine that several could run on their local machines so as to keep one central database. I have an old computer that I am considering turning into a server. Do I need server software to do these things, or will Windows XP work fine? Linux or Windows? Well i have windows vista atm... (Dont tell me XP is waay... better lol) And i saw that some of my dedicated CSS servers were running on linux fedora. But i was wondering because i used ubuntu one time and i put in a CD and it didnt reconise the file type. But is fedora better and will it go faster than WIndows vista? Here's the setting: - 10 Public Computers in a library running Windows XP Pro. - There are no central servers or central file storage. - 1 Local Printer. What we want to do: - Secure Public Accounts on each machine, have a default username/password guests can use. - Share the one printer so that all computers may print. Security for Public Accounts: - Cannot run .exe - Cannot run any harmful scripts - Cannot disable anti-virus/anti-spyware - Cannot modify any configuration settings - Have the right to use all applications (ie, office) but without their settings saved. - Dedicate a folder that clears itself at logoff. - Anything I might have missed. Optional: - Be able to perform administrative duties on all 10 computers from one of them (if possible) Right now I was able to network them fairly easily but one computer wouldn't access the printer for some reason, the biggest issue is the public account one. I'm pretty familiar with basic security control, would there be a good tool to redefine the permissions on guest or some user account to make sure it's "locked" down? Some tool that would allow me to easily fine tune the permissions. I am already familiar with basic security as I am studying MIS right now. But the courses never really gets into the practical side for a small network. They would explain how to set ActiveDirectory and a central server but forgets the basic stuff. Thanks!
